To explain the difference here it is"

What are the different LNB types?

    Wideband LNB = 2 outputs

With wideband LNB you will be able to record three different channels while you watch another, or record four different channels while you watch a recording you made earlier.

    Quad LNB = 4 outputs
With a QUAD  LNB and has two cables that connect to your Box, you will be able to record one channel while you watch another, or record two channels while you watch a recording you made earlier.

COST = Wideband can be had for 25 euro plus postage see here

    https://freesat.ie/products/sky-q-wideband-lnb

QUAD LNB = 29 EURO plus postage. see here

    https://freesat.ie/collections/sky-lnbs/products/sky-quad-lnb

but if you look at sat city they have a big range and can be cheaper.

Wideband LNBs - 2 cables - H polarisation on one cable and V polarisation on the other.

Separate polarisations on each cable allows each feed to be split as many times as required, like your regular terrestrial aerial. Not possible with the previous LNBs where the polarisations are combined on one cable at the LNB end.

This was adopted by Sky for their SkyQ box to allow multiple internal tuners with only 2 cables to be available for viewing, recording, pip, EPG etc. (up to 16 tuners possible iirc)

This was not possible on previous Sky boxes as each tuner required a direct cable connection to an output on a universal LNB. So 2 cables, for viewing 1 channel and recording 1 channel or recording 2 channels.

Freesat also included the wideband LNB option on their current generation of receivers and gives access to 4 tuners.

Freesat receivers are backwards compatible with legacy universal LNBs for 2 tuners. They also has an MDU option for unicable/dscr single-cable connections for multiple tuners, used in apartment blocks etc.

I just rang him and I was wrong he is changing the parts on my dish the LNB bit that’s what he said but he did say everything I can do now and when he is done on Wednesday I can still do.

Sure he will be here Wednesday to test before he leaves anyway. I’m sure it will be fine.

Bumping a thread is actually bringing an old thread back to life. This thread was only a few days old.

I get no epg listings since retune on sky hd box itv 3 only ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭DT2016

all fixed guys all channels back :) can record 3 and watch a 4th also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭DT2016

Slightly problem I can usually record 3 while watching a 4th but now if I record BBC, Channel 5 & ITV HD channels together they will clash and have to cancel it’s rare 3 programmes will be on I want to watch it but still.

If I record bbc, itv & channel 4 it works so something is getting in the way for now.

I won’t complain I am happy my box says standard LNB now

Did you look for a menu on the TV that shows the signal readings. I would still be concerned that your system could lose reception on weak transponders in bad weather conditions. From what you were told by customer service.

"I spoke to customer service and they told me there is something wrong with my dish but I don’t believe them everything is working bad itv 1 2 3 4 HD yet the sd channels work."

What's getting in the way is the standard (universal) LNB, it can only feed two tuners. What you required was a wideband LNB for the 4 tuners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,939 ✭✭✭swoofer

if the lnb has 4 outputs it’s a standard lnb and look at your post where you checked with him and said system would be same but he fitted the wrong lnb and the price difference is minimal but if 2 outputs you change it to wide band in settings. Can you take a pic of the lnb?

See post 65 above. At least you have channels back and found the fault

PS I believe he box detects the type of lnb is use so if it says standard then that is what is connected.

Is there no EPG on the retuned ITV3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,355 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

A few channels are missing the now &next programme data since the transponder changes

UTV, ITV 3, ITV 4, ITV Be

No Now & Next on any of the six versions of ITV 1 HD either.

Just checking my setup, I've moved to the new transponder for UTV, ITV 4 and ITV Be.

The old transponder is still there with now and next data but no data on the new one yet.

The new ITV 3 transponder is missing the programme data.

Maybe when they complete the changeover it'll get sorted.

I’m back again it’s starting annoy that when I record 2 shows at once I can’t watch a 3rd chane before I got it fixed with my missing HD channels. I had a wide band lnb connection where I could record 3 and watch a 4th now I have a standard lnb so I’m big happy. I’ll call into the shop tomorrow’s explain I just hope he will fix it for me. He said when it was fixed I’d have no issue but I do. I have faith anyway he was a nice chap and so was his son in find shop. I’ll pop in tomorrow.

I'm the Limerick area, who did you get to do the job, Satcity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭DT2016

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭DT2016

he basically told me in sat city there is nothing wrong but I had a freesat 4k box for years with no issue and could record 3 at the same time and what a 4th but he did say channel moved frequency lately and I understand but that still doesn’t explain how I had wideband lnb and now when he fixed it I have only a standard lnb

so is he right and I have to make do or is he wrong because I don’t think I am wrong. My gut tells me I’m right but I dunno

Hi, I posted pics for you above and gave a link to where it shows both types of lnb's. Can you take a pic of the lnb if possible. In post 85 you say you are "big happy".

Are you reading the posts closely. Look again at post 65 and the 2 pics.

Tell the guy you got his details from here.

The guy at satcity may not know and think wideband is only for sky Q.

This is the LNB you need

Load of nonsense, probably the reason I've never used them, heard negative reports about them in the past.

With a wideband LNB attached and the settings set to wideband LNB you will have 4 active tuners.

With a standard universal LNB attached and universal LNB setup in the settings you will have 2 active tuners.

    Simple.

I honestly think he does not know that the freesat is 4K and cant get his head round it but what amazes me when he went to change lnb he would have seen the wideband lnb. They are same price! I would like a pic of the lnb that is installed as its possible you can change to either universal or wideband in settings.

And yes you are right but when you asked today did he say you had a wideband LNB installed!!!

I was so surprised I searched the site a bit deeper and lo and behold they actually sell the correct lnb🤔
