Public Urination on our Cul de Sac

    Hi everyone,

We live at the end of a small cul de sac, just 6 houses, at the end there is a turning point where vans stop and workers have their lunch, never the same people really. Most of the time they are very respectful and bring their rubbish.

Lately we are having an increasing amount of vans drive up and publically urinate at the end of the road, and it’s not always can drivers, just random men walking down and peeing and leaving. They are visable to us as the houses have big windows at the front and we not have walls or hedges obstructing views out onto the road.

Today I walked out to collect my young children from school and a man dressed in black just looked up and said hello while peeing into bushes beside my house. I got the fright of my life. And it could have been my teenage daughter or my younger children walking out of the gate.

It’s happening more often now and there is beginning to get a smell of ammonia as the pee dries in the sun! Is there anything that can be done to stop people from doing this. I know it’s illegal, and the Garda station is at the end of our road but I’m sure they have better things to be doing and I don’t want to be sitting at the windows trying to catch people to call them to come down to deal with it!!

Put up a large CCTV sign ? Maybe that will give them pause.

(Seems to be a double post glitch on the site)

Where are they coming from? If it's a nearby building site, start making a fuss with the main contractor.

The cul de sac is used for turning. We are just off the Main Street of our village. Lots stop at the shop at the bottom and get lunch/breakfast/coffee and drive down. I’m not sure where wanders sans transport are coming from. No building sites that I’m aware of

Far easier just to take a photo and report it to the gardai (or details of the vehicle if you don't want to take photos). They do not have better things to be doing, this is their job. Take photos, report, done. If met with ambivalence, mention the lad in black with his mickey out and talking to you or your teenage daughter at the same time.

What you need is some sort of an electric fence to stop them doing it.

Do you think idiots who piss in the wrong places are well versed in GDPR?

    Definitely report this to AGS.

Also get onto a local councillor.

Even better if you have a local residents association backing.

put up a sign (a proper printed laminated large sign).

Say " please do not use this area as a toilet! CCTV has been installed and perpetrators will be reported along with footage"

    Thank you!

Thank you I didn’t know if it was worth it or if they would roll their eyes with better things to be doing which I’m sure they have but the one thing I feel that is eating me inside is I need to protect my children especially if there are more like the fella the other day who was totally at ease that he had his lad out peeing in front of me! My daughter is 17 and autistic, she is quite vulnerable and very nervous in general venturing outside but does like to walk to the shop and back. I dont want my boys thinking this is acceptable but o don’t want to approach people doing this either as you just never know why you will be met with, embarrassment and an apology or a fist in the face.

As #13 You do not need to introduce your daughter into the conversation with the guards.Imagine how she would feel. What's happening is illegal.End of.

She would be traumatised! Genuinely. I pass the guards on my way home from school so I’ll pop in on Monday, they aren’t on duty in the village 24/7 just certain days and hours.

Thank you for the reassurance this isn’t wasting time.

But they might just piss off somewhere else! What would they do, sue you, go to court, that would make the papers

Contractors are probably not a group I'd suspect experts at GDPR. I might suggest most people misunderstand it and toss the term around. Mind the poster suggested putting up a sign, not to actually set up cameras and a youtube channel, so nothing wrong there from that perspective.

One thing I noticed is that Amazon started contracting out randos rather than have their own fleet, and with no company name or sticker on their van to identify them by, coupled with their signature inhumane working conditions and expectations they seem to legit have no time for a pee break. I sympathize more than anything.
