Everyone gets various allowances that they can offset against the tax that they pay.

This woman must be on a good salary for her 3 day week. Add the carer's allowance to this, then minus off the various allowances that you get…….you pay tax on the remainder.

Right her mother needs to get her pension paid into her bank account ( like most people do nowadays) and withdraw what cash she needs for the week or pay by card. Transfer the rest to a savings account. Problem solved. It also saves work and time for the daughter traipsing to the Post office every week to collect the pension

I know someone who receives it for their parents but the parents are able to do everything for themselves. They're in their 80's but fit and well - still driving, doing gardening, shopping, cleaning etc themselves. The person just got the GP to fill in form, sent it off and they were approved for carers. They're able to stay at home looking after their children while getting carers allowance for their parents. No authorities check that the person in receipt is actually doing caring.

Genuine carers need more help from social welfare but there is alot of what I described above happening. Carers allowance is open to abuse.
