I can't say I have really noticed. But I have not been using them much lately.

Could it be that the retail price of the products has also gone up on the products that you are buying but you are still getting the same Trade discount as a percentage?

My understanding is that they bench mark other motor factors and discount accordingly. This is why I think you get such a big discount on branded parts, but much less on Halfords own brand. It's been a few years since I looked at it, so open to correction.

I bought a litre of oil and some wipers last week, got about €2 off the oil, but €10 off the wipers - it's always been a bit random.

The website always seems to be very messy when applying discounts and not always correct, I had the experience once when trying to buy a battery that the trade card price significantly increased the price instead of giving a discount, even in-store all I got was 'computer says no' type response when trying to physically buy it.

Different items get different discounts also.

I'm pretty sure some of those discounts were previously up to 30%, but max is now 20% so looks like they did reduce it.

    From:

    • "Lowest Prices On Bulbs
    • Lowest Prices On Oils
    • 20% off Halfords Workshop & Tools
    • 20% off Batteries
    • 20% off Fuses & Fixings
    • 10% off Oils & Additives
    • 10% off Car Cleaning (Excluding Karcher)
    • 10% off Body Repair
    • 10% off Branded Workshop & Tools
    • 10% off Parts
    • 10% off Blades
    • 10% off Motorcycle
    • 10% off Seasonal Chemicals"

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Last time I looked into it (and applied) you had to go into a Halfords store with proof of trade before receiving the card, do you not need to do this anymore?

Didn't they have a 25-30% price hike about 2 yrs ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,209 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

No it's available to the likes of van drivers now

Thanks all. The price/discount adjustment is definitely recent enough. I have an order for some oil and wipers mid July at a price I was familiar with but now all those things are around 15% more expensive. It’s still a discount off the regular price, but much more modest.

Bought a 200 piece socket set in april with trade cost 225E now its 325E with trade card IT SEEMS ALL THE TOOLS are gone up wen using the trade card as the orginal price without the card u can get 10% off with a AXA card not much difference now in prices

Thanks for the info, yep tools affected as well. I picked up a trolley jack as a spare for €38 in May - €46 now. Problem now is sometimes the website offers are better than trade price, have to log out to check. Asked customer service about any changes to trade pricing, they hadn’t a clue and told me to go in-store…

Trade card stopped working on line now but works no problem in store? Wat is halfords up to ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭honda boi

Ye noticed this the other day

Went onto the online chat and they told me they are having technical errors.

They couldn't give me a time for when it will be fixed.

Mine hasn't worked online for at least 2 months. It works fine for discounts when purchasing, but it's a a pain having to price everything at the Till before proceeding.

It also means I can't Click and Collect.

There was a time when I would often buy extra stuff if there was a decent Trade Discount, but after a couple of months of this issue I rarely bother with Halfords anymore.

just checked mine out of curiosity, working away as normal.

Have Halfords changed their site slightly Colm ? Isn't the Trade Price normally shown in Blue (and has the words "Trade Price" above the figure).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭honda boi

Ye it used to show blue for trade price.

I compared Colms to mine and his is showing a cheaper price so I can only assume it's the trade prices.

And I just noticed his screenshot is showing a Blue Account Avatar, which means ( or used to mean) that your Trade Card is "Live". I asked the staff at my local Halfords, but they hadn't a clue about an issue.

There used to be a couple of staff there that were very clued up on Halfords policies, but they seem to have left in the past year. Hopefully they will sort it, but I'm not holding my breath……

Ate you definitely logged into your account? Mine is showing up fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭mgbgt1978

I can log in to my account . But when I try to enter my Trade Card Number (previously it was sometimes pre-loaded, but not always) it tells me to contact my local Halfords to sort it out. I tried that but they couldn't help. They wouldn't give me a new card to try as they seem to think my existing card is linked to my account………despite the prompt to "activate your Trade Card".

At least my existing Card still gives me the Trade Discount, although maybe if I annoy them enough by bringing loads of stuff up to the counter to be price-checked they might at least try a Fresh Card
