Piastri is actually in the fight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,836 ✭✭✭CFlat

RIssell backing up Ham into Piastri.

Great shout from Russell, some win for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

GReat drive from Russell to be fair.

Can't believe Max didn't get Lec

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,147 ✭✭✭Busman Paddy Lasty

Piastri 1.5s off Russell, oh if he had those 2s back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,349 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Piastris pace is seriously impressive! Absolute masterstroke of a strategy from Russell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,130 ✭✭✭✭klose

Great race to send us into the summer break, fair play to Russell, ballsy 1 stop worked in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,515 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

    That was a great race.

Great shout from Russell, didn't think he'd have a chance. Great to see so many close battles, and to see the teams so close

    Cracking drive from Russell.

Great drive from Russell, he called it to try the one stopper and drove brilliantly to hold off Hamilton. Great race pace from the Merc too. Happy Perez nicked fastest lap from Norris and Max stayed ahead of him.

Good race and strategy, Toto not looking overly happy for some reason

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭Eoinbmw

Hamilton lacks his old bottle !

Should have made his move when he first picked up Russell!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,318 ✭✭✭standardg60

Lewis just couldn't get the last corner right before eau rouge, left him too far back each time, great drive from Russell though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

What a great race, it was fascinating to watch unfold

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭Dave0301

The standard of driving across the top 6 was excellent. The top 4 teams are all very closely matched now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,130 ✭✭✭✭klose

Little bit of shade from Hamilton there to the team calling him in when he had life in his tyres still.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,349 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Excellent qualifying from Checo but what an awful performance going from 2nd to 8th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,053 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Dead silence in the cool down room. Weird. Hamilton raging?

    Cool down room extremely awkward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,318 ✭✭✭standardg60

Hindsight is always 20-20, he wouldn't be complaining if he'd breezed past Russell at the end, 2 stop was the right call at the time for him, Russell had nothing to lose staying out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Last of the front pack, but at least he was good for the fastest lap (shows how underwhelming his race was). The M&M's (Mercs&McClarens) have made obvious gains* on Redbull and there have to be serious questions asked on this Summer break.

*funnily enough this suits Redbull as they are taking points off not just Redbull but eachother

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 756 ✭✭✭ricimaki

I think Piastri's pit error cost him P2, but probably not P1.

Perez must be done in the Red Bull. A good quali for once, only goes backwards in the race.

Interesting how close it was at the end with the 1-2-3 and 4-5-6 groups.

I think shortening the DRS was good, maybe a little too short this time, but at least it wasn't a push to overtake like it has been before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,841 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

1 more lap and we'd have had absolute fireworks between top 3. As it was, very enkoyable ending. Fair play to Russell for calling the one-stopper and pulling it off at the end.

Season is getting very interesting now. Currently 7 drivers legitimately have a chance of a win if the set up is correct, when has that last been the case?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Dunno. Think Oscars mistake has cost him. It's a good 2.5 sec error

2012, probably. It's been a long 12 years! Great to have a competitive front end.

If Red Bull replace Perez, hopefully it becomes 8 drivers!

Checo had a similar result to our Irish hope in F3. Started P2, fell down the field.

    Sergio Perez is Dunne

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,130 ✭✭✭✭klose

He is now P8 in the drivers championship, the good news for him is that that’s as low as he can go now cause Alonso is 80 odd points behind him in 9th.

If the stories about him being below P5/over 100 points behind max by the summer break then he is surely out the gap.

They really aren’t even risking anything putting Riciardo in there, at worst he will be finishing where Perez is and it’s looking like McLaren will do them in the constructors anyways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,841 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Alonso is 9th... I get sad seeing how late in the current f1 intro he is, and how much earlier he'll be in it next year...

great win by Russell, super tyre management.

I can see max going to merc, they seem to be heading in right direction

Red bull possibly hurting due to the lessened wind tunnel time.

Will be surprised if Checo is in Red Bull at Zandvoort

Has bernie had an outfit change?

Russell under investigation for underweight car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,029 ✭✭✭This is it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,130 ✭✭✭✭klose

He will be if it is underweight, black and white rule that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,053 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Might have needed to change those tyres after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,841 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

That's rotten luck for Russell, it'll be very cut and dry.

How does a car get underweight like that? Too much fuel used? The lack of any sort of safety car period will have hurt him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,070 ✭✭✭Hijpo

1.5kg under weight after fuel was drained

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,639 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Just underweight, maybe they didn't remove fuel like they should have and car just underweight?

Probably missing 1.5kg from his used up tyres 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,053 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Not as silly as it sounds. They didn't seem to do a full lap after the finish, and it's been a thing in the past for cars to run in the marbles on the way around to pick up weight. Putting extra laps on the tyres would also lose a good bit of weight through wear. 1.5Kg is less than 400g a wheel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Trampas

Can the stewards replace the tyres if they wish or did I dream that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,070 ✭✭✭Hijpo

And no safety car so they were doing genuine lap times for the duration of the race and it was resurfaced

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

No the car as it was when crossing the line needs to be at minimum weight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,484 ✭✭✭✭flazio

They never do a cool down lap in Spa. It's always straight back to the pits the wrong way.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,639 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

what are the chances the second Merc is also underweight? Although I guess it's italready been checked

Confirmed that Russell is disqualified from the race, Hamilton gets the win, Piastri up to P2 and Leclerc gets onto the podium in P4
