Incapacitated child tax credit

I have just applied for the incapacitated child tax credit and I've read that it can be backdated for 4 years.

I'm just wondering if it is backdated automatically or I need to apply for this and if so how do I do that?

I work part time(18.5hrs/wk) as I am receiving the carers allowance... Will this(part time job) affect how much I will get back as a backdated amount?

    TThank You
