Why no soccer in Current Affairs?

I recently started a thread in current affairs about the appointment of the new manager of the Irish football team. It was abruptly closed, with the reason being that this topic could be discussed in the soccer forum.

I contacted the moderator to appeal to have the thread reopened but not even bothered to respond. So here is the message I sent with my reasoning.

"Hello friend. The soccer forum has restricted access. Why can't we discuss the Irish national team in the unrestricted forum? As far as I can tell the soccer forum is private and separate to boards. If they want to be independent then why shouldn't we be allowed to discuss the Irish team which most people, even those not normally interested in soccer have a right to an opinion since they are funded by taxpayers and of national interest. Why are threads about RTE, government, crime etc allowed in current affairs when they all have their own forums (not access restricted I might add). Thanks."

I'm not saying there should be all kinds of threads about soccer allowed, but as the Irish teams are of national interest, I thought it could be discussed there, since the soccer forum is closed off and not everyone who would want to discuss the Irish team would necessarily want to jump through their hoops to do so.

    Thanks.
