Nct emmissions fail

Hi

My car failed the nct due to emmissions as displayed here

Its a 2010 mazda 6 1.8 petrol

Anybody any advice as to how to fix these issues

Are you in Dublin? Auto Exhausts in Crumlin. They will put a new catalytic converter on, and something for the lambda

Dipetane added to fuel and drive it for about 60k on a long run ( not urban traffic ) day before test. Worth a try and a LOT cheaper , always works for me so far . available in motor factors and Micks garage online for speedy delivery

Has your car ever failed on emissions tho and then subsequently passed after using Dipetane?

I don't know about the Dipetane. His readings aren't off by a small amount, they are pretty bad and not something Dipetane will fix.

Dipetane doesn’t work in almost all cases. I have used Dipetane or many emission fail cars and it has never worked. My guess is that the poster above uses it every year but would have passed regardless because their car doesn’t have an emissions problem

I'm like that guy in my last car I used to run Dipetane coming up to NCT test and on day of test and it always passed emissions but like you said it would probably have passed regardless.

edit: It was an oldish car and always failed on other stuff but like I said it always passed emissions.

My old 1.2 polo failed on emissions after driving it hard on M50 before testing, put a bottle of dipetane in it and it subsequently passed but scraped a pass and the tester definitely helped pass it by revving the **** out of it and letting it get very hot.

Not sure if it works or not but my dad who I gave it to did the same this year putting a bottle in and it passed no problem , tester didn't need to do anything to get it to pass 🤷🏼‍♂️

No harm in the stuff, I don't see how they could get away with saying it reduces emissions on the bottle of they didn't have some sort of evidence, would be false advertising

Other than CO you've seriously high HC @ idle. That's incomplete combustion/unburnt fuel & will have a knock on effect on everything else. Maybe worth getting spark plugs changed first & see if there is a smell of petrol off the dipstick. Might be the cheapest first step.

Yeah fair enough, I’ve just had many Polo’s and Yaris’s fail on emissions and Dipetane alone was never any use to me.

The first thing to do is get a proper diagnosis of the issue. The high CO and low lambda would point to the engine running rich. When was the last service done, is there a check engine light on the car, is their a misfire?. It could be a simple coil pack or plug issue or a leaky injector. There also could be a issue with the air flow sensor, it would be best to get this checked before looking at catalytic converters. Where are you located as someone may be able to advise further.

Yes it failed emissions but passed after Dipetane and driving it long distance 100k motorway , but it was an old Ford diesel 2008

Diesel cars don’t get tested for emissions. Its a smoke test only.
