That particular politician is shall we say somewhat lacking and will do and say absolutely anything for popularity.

He's looking for extra flights. There are currently zero. So even one charter flight would be an extra flight. Highly unlikely but no harm in floating the idea as you occasionally see Aer Lingus positioning a plane from Cork to Dublin. If someone thought there'd be marketing kudos (and a few bob) in it they'd jump at the opportunity.

It's awful how nonsense like this gets media coverage. They're going to be talking about it on Newstalk this hour and I've no doubt it'll get a sympathetic ear and no mention of any of the practical reasons against it.

“I’ve been in touch with Iarnród Éireann, and with Bus Éireann. It’s even gotten bad enough that I’ve contacted DAA to see if they’ll enquire with Ryanair or Aer Lingus about putting on extra flights for fans.”

Why would the DAA be contacting Ryanair or Aer Lingus ?

The DAA they run / manage airports. They don’t have the slightest interest in how GAA fans of any county or code get to Croke Park.

this Gould fella is just looking to make headlines and make political capital through soundbites and what not… meanwhile, back in the real world Mr. Gould ——> 🤦🏻‍♂️

It's just populist nonsense from him. But he's been in the news now so that'll help his profile.

Didn't some Cork passengers contact their TDs a few months back because a Canaries flight had to tech stop in Faro? Maybe he's trying to expand TD's role from allegedly getting potholes fixed to traveller advisor?

The facts/reality of the situation don't really matter here.
All that matters is that a Cork TD publicly raised concerns about his local area and "demanded" better infrastructure for his constituents.

They should lie and say they'd love to but can't due to the passenger cap in Dublin.

Extra means in addition to, if there are no flights there can be no additional/extra flights.

Anyway, a couple of people may remember this stunt come election time so job done for the bould TD.

I'm no sinn fein fan, but I'll have to disagree here on the unknowns element. As much as I'd disagree with him on most policies and I didn't give him any preference vote at all in the 2020 general election, he's very well known in North Side of Cork and was a shoe in for election in 2020 based on his profile as councillor and once Jonathan O'Brien (the previous shinner in Cork North Central) announced he wasn't running.

    He's still a gobdaw though.
