Hi all,can anyone help me, I’m trying to re-search quotes for installing over solar panels in our Dormer house,I have already 3 visits on our site -3 different solar engineers-and every one said different,1 said you can put 2 panels, one said maybe 7 or 8 ,and 1 man said -you can’t put nothing because is dormer house, and vent on top of roof-which I’m understanding for building regulations-but maybe can be shifted? My question is if anyone of you have installed on dormer houses pv solar panels system?and what company they doing?sent me pm please?or any other company they using smaller size’s panels, please help!,House based co laois, thanks

I'd suggest include some pictures of the roof. And include the orientation (east, west, south...)

Include the length of the roof.

thanks for your comment,I’m trying me best ,I don’t have a clue about solar, but that extension bellow is 3.1m by 3.7m roughly, but has 2 gutters shoe stopped on top of roof, the roof on top is vent or 2 vents but space is limited to leave space from the edges etc.might wrong,as far I know is 500mm from side ,we’re not qualified for grant too, house built in 2022 ,there’s any company they doing small sizes to built up and use space as much u have?

Put a google earth picture of your roof up and some here might be able to offer better advice and indicate which direction is south.

The main roof in the photo doesn't seem to have clearances for panels (???)

The roof over the back door should get 2 panels (Maybe more)

You could also put 2 panels sloped between the HP cage and the side wall . Also gives some shelter to the unit.

If you end up with say 4 panels it may be better to go with micro inverters & turn it into a DIY project.

DIY may be better than spending 000s on a contractor and put the money saved into a battery/Inverter system to get ev rate electricity 24 hours a day.

yes,the top roof might one panel or 2 if fit, them bottom roof above door maybe 2 or 3 will fit,I have another 2 different solar engineers will pop up to give quote in next week, but after that ill have to leaving like is ,no space

You could also look at putting panels over your side-passage sloped from house to top of wall…could act as a shelter for the passage

I think there is a minimum mandatory space you have to leave from the edge of the roof (Not sure if it is just part of grant or general construction rules). Doesn't looks like you will get much onto the main roof. I see shadow of the extension which would suggest that the sun should be hitting the front side of the house too. Any space over that side?

I’m not qualified for grant, house was built in 2022 so-won’t get anything looks like, this Wooden extension won’t be blocking any sun light, might be blocking small bit on main roof where is 2 dormers, there’s no solar company so they have smaller sizes to suit roof sizes?,thanks

The older 300w panels were a bit smaller, but they aren't made now.

There was a member who might have been selling 5 x 275w panels a few weeks ago if you want to see if they still have them. https://www.boards.ie/profile/discussions/daheff

AFAIK for planning permission exemption it's 50cm bottom and sides, 20cm at the top,
