whether the titles are given elsewhere or not, i could argue either way - but i 100% think city should have them stripped if they are guilty. Can't, imo, find them guilty and allow them to keep the titles. An asterix ain't enough, they should simply not be acknowledged as winners in those seasons. If they decide no one gets a title those seasons, fine, but it can't remain with city.

I thought they refused them. I could have sworn I've heard James Horncastle talking about the league officially not having a winner those years

we lost the title on goal difference in 2012! if it's stripped from City, we should absolutely get it.

Obviously if the 2014 title is stripped it should be just left vacant so Gerrard's slip isn't taken away from humanity.

Very true but the panel was selected by a Premier League appointee. So I don't get it when people feel there's likely to be a stitch up in City's favour! I can't see it.

04/05 was left unassigned and 05/06 was awarded to Inter.

They'll declare themselves champions anyways and start issuing out medals.

I could see there being back room pressure getting put on the various people involved, cause the money being plowed into the economy is so important. We know the governements of the UK and Abu Dhabi have directly spoken on this case. We dont know what they said though, kept sectret on the basis of foreign relations… which doesn't bode well.

IMO if it was United, with no state money involvement, or Liverpool, or Villa we'd be seeing a quick case. City, and now Newcaslte, I fear, will use their government reach to pressure anyone who goes against them.

Fear of corruption I would imagine more than anything.
When there is so much money available to the people being accused I suppose people fear them being able to find a way to make it "go away".

I can't see how the PL brings it this far and doesn't follow through.
If it was going to be swept under the carpet surely that happens 4/5 years ago

There are a few things I'd say.

In my view it's not surprising the panel has taken so long. They know that if they find City guilty (again I can't see how they wouldn't, given the nature of the evidence in public), then they KNOW how City will respond. They will look for the tiniest of gaps in the report to attack and attempt to string everything out with more legal cases. The panel will surely be acutely aware of this. This is my theory as to why it's taking so long - they will be trying to proactively preempt City legal challenges and make sure the report is as water tight as possible. That would take an awful lot of time, especially when there's 115 charges and stacks of evidence.

With regards corruption and middle eastern investment. I can see that angle but imo if that was going to be a decisive factor, then it would've stopped the charges being brought in the first place. Nobody would've batted an eyelid. I'm sure City tried to pull all the strings and exert diplomatic pressure behind the scenes but they obviously failed because the charges were still brought. Now the horse has bolted.

Let's see, but I'd be very surprised.

With all the talk of the charges I really hope Omar Berrada's name doesn't come up in any of the charges in anyway. Even if he isn't guilty of anything if his name is attached to anything to do with charges the papers will use this as a way to get headlines and suddenly United have involvement too. I'm pretty sure it was highlighted and quashed on his arrival to United so I hope United have done their due diligence.

Yeah that's fair and can't disagree with that.

Whatever the outcome the reputation of the PL will be in tatters and as a 'product' it's going to take a massive hit. If City get away with a fine and a slap on the wrist I can see the likes of Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool push for the European super league.

If City have titles stripped the PL looks like the corrupt little league it actually is.

Either outcome could massively affect the next TV rights deal which would be catastrophic for a lot of clubs.

Disagree with your second point. If city do get what's coming to them it strengthens the brand imo because the PL are seen to stand up to dodgy dealing. Its portrayed as (and probably is) the most competitive league in the world so maintaining that by punishing cheats makes alot of sense. Also, the reality is that nobody outside of city fans gives 2 shiny shites about them.

Palace cleaning up on the Slot machines tonight. Seem to be paying out every week now.

Watching Baleba v Arsenal tonight, underwhelmed by him, letting the game pass him by.

IMO Wharton is the player we have to move heaven and Earth for next Summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

not gonna disagree on Baleba, he's having a shocking season - whatever the reason is. a shadow of what he showed last season. Couldn't justify even the 70m we were talking about in the summer, never mind the 100+ Brighton apparently wanted (and I thought it would take).

Wharton though… I do think he is a top player, but we need someone who shows a more combative side imo - but then i think we need to sign two and Wharton could be 1, assuming the other compliments him (by having that physical side).

    Glory glory Man United

I'm just enjoying the relative positivity about United the last few games. Does really feel like some progress is being made.

Liverpool's current predicament is also enjoyable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,590 ✭✭✭✭kippy

The PL don't have a reputation. They've had and allowed some of the most unscrupulous of people own PL clubs over the years oftentimes to the detriment of the clubs and their local fans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,260 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

About time Liverpool fans get payback for all the crap we had to put up with the last few years. It's fecking glorious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭jayo44

I think that was their payback for what they had to put up with for 25 years. It's enjoyable but we always just one defeat away from meltdown ourselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,260 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

True. We shouldn't be getting too far ahead of ourselves but we'll enjoy it while it lasts.

    It's all slotting into place.

    Untitled Image

Have any of our managers since the GOAT lost 6 out of 7 games? They have Villa, Madrid and City in their next 3 games too, long may it continue!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,736 ✭✭✭✭JRant

I did think about that myself but I really don't see it that way. It is one of the most competitive leagues amd nobody really cares about City, not even their own fans if they are being honest. Their treble celebrations were the most subdued celebrations I've ever seen.

That said, the PL brand is hanging on by a thread. City won the league at will, denying legit teams along the way and nothing was done about it. Even now, nothing is being done about it when the whole world and it's dog knows they were up to no good. Justice delayed is justice denied, as they say, and they've been allowed grow into a juggernaut that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. That's before we even talk about allowing oligarchs and State nations buy clubs.

The joys of having one game a week, the weeks are either unbearably long or beautiful. This week has been beautiful.
