i really hope we give him decent game time, else the relationship (especially if not selected for WC squad) might be broken.

but now its up to him to fight for his spot, and improve in the areas amorim wants him to improve.

    romano:

Understand Manchester United have informed Kobbie Mainoo about zero chances to leave today.

The case is closed. Mainoo stays at Man United this season despite request to leave on loan.

He will get game time as Mount continues to be Mount, and Bruno moves back into the more forward position.

It's then up to Mainoo to prove what he thinks is his quality and value.

I do think transfer fee grabs people’s eyes, but it’s usually wages that is the make or break.

Completely take your point on it being subjective and it really is. Especially as you allude to when comparing between clubs of completely different stature. Smaller clubs will almost always extract ‘better value’.

I think it’s also hard to compare across huge value lines. Is Saka better relative value to his contract than Salah. I can see that argued both ways because of the contract value differential.

The issue for me with MDL is he is equal to VVD (unless VVD also got a large signing fee which I wouldn’t rule out as he looks far too cheap still). He’s much more expensive than Konate, Gabriel, Saliba, Guehi (even after he signs now), Yoro. I don’t see him as in a grey area. He’s a good to v good player on an elite CB contract. I don’t think anyone would argue he is in the top 5 CBs in the PL or even particularly close.

    yeah exactly it.

ETH sacked by Bayer after just 2 games

Not unless they off-load one, if not two, of the current keepers. Not a hope they're putting five keepers on the books.

    I didn't say that.

Bayindir seemingly wants to leave, he's lower value, he knows full well he's not first choice so should be easy to move on.

Onana has a high price and wage, and he's more likely to want to stay, so harder to get rid of.

Onana has been regular number 1 and throwing Lammens in the deep end against City might not be best for him, so I think Onana will start vs City especially since there's a good chance Bayindir won't even be here.

If we're not going to start a new keeper against a bottom half of the table side, when will we start him

But Bayindir has rightfully been #1 this year. Promoting Onana now back to #1 would be bizarre. We shouldn't sell the better keeper because its easier and keep the worse overpaid backup.

Give Lammens #24 and tell Onana he is excused from first team training and wont be registered in the PL squad. Sure he might decide to stay but remove him from any and all first team duties and make sure he knows his time is over.

Fk all the negativity. I'm calling it now, Lammens is going to be a great signing. Big, strong, good distribution, vocal in the box. In 2 years time we'll be saying he's the best since Van Der Sar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭DataDude

Surely this hurts your chances of moving him on next Jan/Summer? I’d be trying keep it cordial to help get rid.

He’s 29. 3 years left on a contract he’ll never match anywhere else. Has us by the b*lls. A bit of good will might not hurt when we’re agreeing his payoff next summer.

Apparently he has turned down Galatasary because he only wants to join United (according to twitter journo)..........

Bayindir started because Onana was coming back from injury.

The simple fact (that I keep repeating) is that we would find it extremely difficult to sell Onana this window and nuking him from the squad just for the craic serves no purpose.

We need to shed a keeper because we're not oversubscribed.

Onana = very hard to get rid of this month

Bayindir = probably easy to get rid of this month

So it's very likely that our choice by the time City roll around will be Onana, Lammens or Heaton.

Heaton never plays (no idea why). Dropping Lammens straight into the mix would be risky, not just for that game but as a new young keeper making his debut at the top level.

So I think the most likely outcome will be that Onana plays against City.

Doubt Villa agree a deal unless any loan becomes permanent and can't see Lammens signing if the plans were to also sign Martinez. Then throw in trying to move on the chuckle brothers.

Though could do a City and be like tough you're here to battle it out with Martinez for the next couple of seasons. But the club is lucky to be signing one keeper so can't see them signing two. Even if they could offload Bayindir and Onana on loan this window.

If no midfielder comes in today I really hope they keep tabs on Ayyoub Bouaddi. Very young and inexperienced but the lad looks quality for his age and off the field he's the right character to have around the squad.

Of course the even better option would have been for us to bring in a keeper in July, rather than waiting til 4 games and 4 keeper errors deep before making the change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭Anything4883

My mind is blown with people saying it would be a risk to play Lammens right from the off.

Surely the bigger risk is playing either of the 2 Goalkeepers we have saw recently.

He has to start straight away.

Had a look at his compilation on YouTube. I know even Onana had a good compilation....

But he does look more mobile and there were a few saved penalties in the video too. Doesn't seem to have brittle wrist like our current excuse for a gk. Couldn't find a video of his conceded goals which might be more helpful in making a judgement.

I'd throw him in straight away....

Hilarious. Why did it take us so long to take the same action?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,902 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

If Amorim starts Onana against City hopefully its his last game in charge. Starting Onana just because he is too hard to sell would be utterly pathetic.

Or if its a case that Lammens just isn't good enough to be first choice out of the weakest bunch of goalkeepers the club have had in the last 20 years then hes a pointless signing.

The club are crying out for a new starting goalkeeper. If the new keeper we sign can't start then what a waste of time and money. The bar Lammens has to clear is incredibly low.

I've tried 2 or 3 times to explain this but it's still not landing. Forget it.

Yes let's bin Onana immediately and if the manager picks him again... We sack him?

    Sweet.

Can we just accept there's nobody else arriving?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,519 ✭✭✭BenK

You can't reward a player simply because he's harder to shift. Onana has done nothing to deserve to start and it sends out a terrible message if he starts against City.

& nuking him from the squad does serve a purpose, it sends out the message that if you don't perform there are consequences!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 483 ✭✭gillamandango

How is Big Jim allowing RA away with an underperforming player, when INEOS are all about positive metrics and even without them, you can see that Onana is not the calibre of keeper that we need. I find that confusing. Surely there is messages/pressure filtering down the hierarchy

Season number 16 in a row of still being short a CM

    EVENFLOW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,902 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

No I get your point. Its just bizarre

You think Onana is harder to sell than Bayindir.

Therefore Onana gets to start against City.

If Amorim keeps picking the worst keeper available it wont be long before hes gone. Unless you also think Amorim is too hard to get rid off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,457 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

I'm happy with the Lammens signing now it's happened.

It fits with the stated new focus of getting the next guy rather than the guy right now.

What if we're getting the next Courtois before he moves to Atletico?

It's not like Emi is risk free, high wages, transfer fee, age, temperament, too many unknowns for me.

Now if we were to get him on a cheapo loan like everyone's been getting our dodgy lads - great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,611 ✭✭✭randd1

What's the point in paying for him if we're not going to play him?

Maybe he's good, maybe he's bad, we don't know. But we know what we have right now isn't very good.

He was brought in to play for Man United, which means they think he's good enough for the club. If he's good enough to play for the club, and what's available in terms of competition for his spot isn't great, then play him, regardless of the opposition or how long he has been there.

And not for nothing, hasn't he played more games this season than either of the United keepers? Granted in a smaller club at a weaker league, but more game time all the same.

Start him. He has to start at some stage, why not let him start at City.

It's like there is a collective amnesia after every error strewn performance

The windows in Turkey and Saudi don't close until September 10th. Surely you could find one club that would take him on loan for a season even if you basically tell the lad gtfo in a professional tone.

I know it's different with outfield players but Rasmus was pushed out the door when he wasn't a part of the bomb squad. I'd be pushing Onana out the door before letting Bayindir leave also.
