Anyone ever found anything out there to be notably outstanding, please? Or, should I just stick to what ever's available. Just for edc.

I've been wearing such a tool, edc, for a year now. It's kind of making me think how carp these, generic, blades seem to be 😒

Try to avoid using them where possible mostly

It depends on what you're cutting with them. I never had any issues with any of them, to be honest.

Dunno. Maybe it's just me? Rose tinted glasses of nostalgia? Only, I'm sure the blades used to be sharper than this.

I've seen the 'brand name' ones. How many times the price?! Wonder if they add up?

I would buy Olfa knives and blades over Stanley anything, personally.

back in the day we used to make our first year cabinet maker apprentices re sharpen their stanley blades on their oilstones as if they could sharpen them they could sharpen anything

There are even two sizes of Stanley knife blades. Many of the generic ones are slightly smaller than the genuine Stanley knife blades and just don't fit properly a genuine Stanley tool.

Wake me up when it's all over.

OMFG! 😁 This did it! Never heard of them. Dug them out and dl'd their catalogue. I haven't got half way through iy and I've had to stop myself. Because I do have a life! 😂

Why was I comparing, and Drooling over " Knee Kickers "?! I don't even Like carpets! (I think, maybe, I just have a thing for catalogues)

Irwin though! The exact 'brand name' ones I'd ~ seen on Major Tom's and ~ mentioned, above? Good grief! Are they anything Like worth that price??? @e.r ? Can we * easily * source ST gear, here, please? (Forgive the Laze. Just haven't stopped to dig that far yet)

As to the rest of it? Yeah. I used " Stanley " like we might use " Hoover ". The actual thing I wear on my belt? It's a Milwaukee. Fill ye boots 😙

Dunno how an actual Stanley branded blade might fit? Never had one to try. Been using these god awful things, yellow, plastic box? Pick them up local. Don't think they've even Got a name on them?

And, it might tell, fact that Milwaukee do a range of their own (What ever) Knives. Ye can get them with a screw driver, or what ever. I went for the one that can hold a bunch of fresh blades.

@dathi Brilliant, honourable mention of Cabinet Makers there! ☝️ Every time I knock up a chicken related thing, or something? I'll tend to stand back and look at it. Painfully aware that I'd had to bodge that one screw. And, I Always console myself; " Well; I'm Not a bloody Cabinet Maker! " 🤣

Nah. Just a bloke who's perfectly comfortable in the fact that he Can't sharpen things. (Can't count or play an instrument either. Ain't life a bitch?) I Can appreciate the use of a really Sharp blade though. But, Swan Morten don't fit my Milwaukee 😛

Bear in mind that carpet knives have a different bevel on them than regular Stanley knife blades. They won't be as sharp but will be more durable.

Once again this guy has tested them, pity there isn't anyone in Ireland/UK who does tests with products we have.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Thank You! 😁 That's my man! I'd lost track of him. Just subscribed ~ though, I wonder if he's still doing them? I'll be rewatching a few more, anyway. He looks like something I might have found in a trap. But, I Love his raw enthusiasm for his subjects. And the 'Tests' he figures out? Worth it for that alone! 😂

Dated though, even now, aren't they? All that, " Made In USof A!!!!! ". No, they're not. Not now. I'll have to sneak a peek at what ever the dick in town has left. Never know. Pack or two of old, 'proper' Stanley's would probably do me, going by his results / prices 😐️

Iron, really. I still have a soft spot for Stanley gear. Even though. I bought this Milwaukee knife, because I suspect they're a very good brand. Because it carries a bunch of spare blades. And, because it has a Belt Clip! (EDC, see?) Not at all sure I'd be splashing out for their Blades though.

Regards, 'Anyone, Ireland/UK who does tests with products we have.'? Is he not a Brit? I'll be damned. Never, once occurred to me he wasn't. But, yeah; " Products we have. "? Surely we can Get what ever we want, (Too) here?

Anyway, yes. I guess that's absolutely nailed, as closely as we're liable to, today, my original question, hasn't it? There are indeed blades which come sharper, out of the box. And ones that'll stay that way.

Wouldn't a re run of his tests be brilliant, now?! Same names. See who's the Maker, now. And test Their gears performance 👌

it really is a shame that someone wont start doing similar test. there really is a hole in the market for this sort of content

I always bought regular stanley blades for ripping plaster board and they were fine but useless for cutting the foam ceiling tiles

Been using F.F Group blades (German Company) in a Stanley knive and have found them to be very good.

All Stanley stuff these days is not what Stanley was 20+ years ago

@Mr321 " All Stanley stuff these days is not what Stanley was 20+ years ago "

Ain't That the truth 😒 But, what is?

Then again? I have my Stanley 'Yankee' screwdriver here. Forget which number / model it is now. They're a subject in themselves, of course. But, yeah. Brief glance at Their history? Made from London. Germany, at one time. So on.

Hmm. Glance at Major Tom's and I see Wolfcraft do blades. Now, I believe they're a German firm. All their own gear. Made in Germany?

    🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,576 ✭✭✭Stigura

Marvellous, isn't it? Resisted the allure of Tom's and all that range. Was in town, today. Grabbed those. About all I saw. (Though, I was looking at the Stanley section! 😄) Just had to be an exact 'model' he hadn't covered.

I've no idea. Says 'Heavy Duty'. Made in UK. Get about, don't they? Stanley comes in a pretty fairly 'above average', in his tests, don't they? 70's %, across the board, maybe?

If these show to appear better than the no named ones …..

Those are the standard "good" blades, Stanley also do the 1991 blades which are supposed to be less durable.

Their FatMax Carbide blades are touted as their top of the range sharpest blades that hold their edge longest.

@The Continental Op Ye seem a bit 'up' on ye Stanley blades? Ever got the fascination with their 'Yankee' screw drivers? I dug out a site, one time. Brilliant, actually. Guy was clearly an obsessive.

Astounding, the number of models of those out there. Extremely important information to be armed with too, if ye want to buy one off the bay.

Tools are great, aren't they? Good ones! 😁

Did the real Stanley blades used to be wrapped individually in an oily wax type bit of paper or were they some other brand?

Christ, yes!!! 😀 Brown paper, wasn't it? As soon as I saw ye post; Really powerful image of brown paper folder round blades. I seem to remember thy were fairly swimming in some sort of oil / grease too.

Talk about 'Those were the days', eh? Fish 'n chips in news paper 🎻

Yep I can remember when they came in brown paper. Back in the day they use to use a brown paper that was rust retardant. Just found it you can still get it https://www.amazon.co.uk/BENECREAT-Anti-Corrosion-Anti-Rust-Moisture-Proof-Rust-Proof/dp/B0CNG2KXY2/

Brilliant, CO! I, honestly, just sat and stared at that stuff. And the pictures of stuff wrapped In it? Almost caught myself thinking of buying some. Just to grease a couple of metal things and wrap them up. Put them on the shelves I have, with the jam jars screwed underneath them? 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,479 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

At one time all the Stanley tools used to come wrapped in that paper inside their trade mark yellow boxes. Other tool manufacturers like Record also used to wrap their tools in it.

"stays 10x sharper for longer "

A bold claim (the 10x bit)?

Not a claim I was going to repeat ;-) I'd have any Stanley knife blade blunt in no time as recently my main use has been cutting roofing felt.
