How much of a difference do tyre brands make to road noise ?

hi all,

I’ve test driven a few different cars of the same year and make/model where I’ve noticed or at least perceived different noise levels from one car to the next.

Where road surfaces are identical, how much of an influence can the tyre brand have on noise in the cabin?

77dB is three times louder than 67dB. In short, it makes a big difference and there will be legal limitaitons coming in future I believe - not for the car driver, but for pedestrians and residents near roads.

I wonder if an 18” tyre make more noise than a 17” ? Assume so. One of the models I drove was a sport model with 18s

Definitely. You can hear the noise difference straight away if you ever change your wheels.
