Hi All just looking for some advice

the wife bought a car from a dealer last week and it looks like it has been clocked.

The car was imported from Northern Ireland and I done a check on the MOT website

the mileage doesn’t match up with the service history mileage stored on the vehicle computer

Where do I go from here? I’m going to approach the dealer in the AM just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row

    Cheers

    Paul

Is it out by much? Before contacting dealer I'd do a history check on the car from the likes of Cartell or Motorcheck to see if anything else pops up.

nothing showed up on the cartel report and everything looked good - it was when when I put in the English registration it’s giving MOT done in November 21 with 31k miles

Yet the car the car was serviced in 2020 with 67k miles and March 21 with 80k miles

So it doesn’t add up - it’s a high end car and was paid cash so I’m a little worried.

Hoping to get money back or I’ll go down the legal route

Did you consider it could be a km/miles conversion issue or error?

the services in question are logged in miles on the car’s computer and the MOTis miles also as Uk Even if you convert it doesn’t add up anyway what so ever

    Car serviced:

    June 2020 67k miles

    March 2021 80k miles

    MOT

    November 2021 31k miles

if it’s a high end car maybe you can bring it a dealer, maybe they can get the actual mileage from the ECU.

So bring it to a dealer of that marque and ask them if they can verify if the mileage is correct or not.

Great idea - I’ll chase that up tomorrow.

TBH the car is in great condition, not much wear and tear on steering or pedals etc..

Could easily be the case. Keyboard error. Some keyboards or other input devices (phones for example) have 1, 2, 3 on the top row and others like computer keyboards have 1, 2, 3 on the bottom row. Someone typing without looking at the keyboard may have chosen the wrong row to enter 9 and entered 3 instead.

    91k would fit with the previous mileage - 9 months to March 21 - 13k, 8 months to November 21 - 11k.

what makes you think that -is there anyway to verify ?? my figures are actually a little off see below service history

    MOT NOV 21 - 31k miles

Not the first time MOT mileage was incorrect. If the car was clocked, it would show up in the service mileage. Can't see anything off kilter there other than it seems it apparently wasn't serviced for a few years. 😮

    2017 - 2020 (32 months) - 1.9k a month.

    2020 - 2021 (13 months) - 1.3k a month.

    2021 - 2023 (22 months) - 1.0k a month.

    The reduction is gradual.

A BMW that's had its first service after 61,000 miles, the mileage discrepancy is going to be the least of your worries man...

I hope you got that car for very very cheap...

If that is actually the first service in the system I think someone has been messing around with the onboard computer aswell as it should have an "!" Mark beside it to its left as it would have missed multiple services that were due, similar to the top service listed but that one is probably ok.

(The last service I don't think is an official BMW service hence it appearing last and having no code)

Wheres the clocking? Was it advertised with 117/118k miles on it?

If so it's just an error with mileage at MOT date, which isn't relevant in Ireland anyway.

    I don't think there's a problem here. Or am I missing something?
