Depreciation and value 2020 ish 530e

I'm considering a 530e and looking to move up to a 2019/2020 model in m sport trim.

I see a few examples with dealers (2020, asking 38k, sub 60k KMs).

    Is this a good price?

I'm just wondering what the list price would have been on these when new?

I know with covid maybe the used market in 2019/2020 is thin. I could potentially hold off another year or two. Do you think these used values are currently inflated?

It seems strong if the list price would have been in the 50-60k range.

E.g. 38k/55k new is 70% after 4years. Seems very strong?

    Thanks for opinions.

List price is basic spec. Extras cost big money. They would hold their value well

What they cost in 19/20 is largely irrelevant. New prices inflated, used prices rose with them

They've just replaced that model but a well specced msport would have been 70k+ at the end of the models run. 38k for a 4 year old car sounds high but benchmark it against others for sale and shop around to keep them honest.

I owned a 530e msport from 2020 to 2022, nice car but electric range was terrible. It drove me mad trying to keep the petrol engine off, if that's your intention with the phev make sure your driving suits it. It was almost as thirsty on petrol as any of the 6 cylinder 5 series I had over the years too. I drove about 50% of distance on electric, 50% on petrol so it wasn't too bad cost wise overall. I moved to full EV.

Range anxiety was very real! I know I had petrol engine to fall back on but I liked using electric. Plugging in every time I got out of the car was a bit of a pain too, especially in bad weather. But I did do it. The missus never did.

If it had realistic range of 80kms on electric like the new model does, I'd probably still own it today. I wish I liked the new models looks but I don't.

PHEVs are popular and really the main option in that segment these days. Also the new 5 Series model jumped substantially in price over the older model last year so that in turn has made resale values of the older model remain strong.

Regarding your figures, I think a 530e M Sport would have started at about 60k three years back rather than 55k. A decent spec one would have cost around 65k.

    Thanks Bazz

So a 2020 model with 56k kmsmiles for euro38k seems reasonable. The car I'm looking at is a non main dealer in Kildare. Any concerns with going outside of bmw network here?

Its an m sport, m performance model. Any way to tell if there are extra packs on it if not stated in the ad?

I've been running a 320d e92 so used to bmw servicing costs, tyres, shocks, had to do the timing chain also.

What would a realistic depreciation figure look like on this if I kept it 3 years? Would you get back 20k for a 7y.o. example assuming it's in good condition.

I don't do big mileage, maybe 10k KMs a year but trying to manage to a depreciation budget of about 500e/month or 6k a year.

    Thanks.

Sorry other question is what are seats like in m sport in this model.

Ive a few lower back issues so leaning towards a 5 series over a 3 series this time as presuming the ride even in m sport in the 5 would be less firm than the 330e.

Other options are possibly an xc40 or xc60 but xc60 likely out of my budget at the moment (trying to avoid another diesel and go phev if I can) and would ideally like to stay with bmw if the seats and ride are tolerable on the back!

Expect 50% depreciation every 3 years. The fact that these are so easily importable from the UK by dealers here doesn’t help with it holding value

If it's the grey 530e for sale in Kildare then it doesn't actually have the M Performance pack. The M Performance pack usually consists of larger alloy wheels, a bigger body kit and tuned engine. Not sure they ever even did a M Performance pack for the 530e.

That grey one has the upgraded adaptive headlights as well as the 360 surround cameras. Everything else is pretty much standard M Sport on it. The suspension will be perfectly fine and very comfortable on the 5 Series. It will feel like an arm chair coming from an E92.

As for warranty, it's only as good as the dealer honouring it. The BMW used car warranty is way superior but you will pay a lot more for a similar car from a BMW dealer.

The M Performance Power Pack did not have any extras apart from what was needed for upgraded performance, so no wheels or body kit. M Performance wheels & body kit would have been separate dealer fitted extras. Not sure if they did the power pack for a 530e either to be honest.
