This is a long shot but …

I'm researching a gentleman born 1850 and raised near London in a successful business family. He entered TCD as a Senior Freshman in 1872 and got his BA there in 1874. He was ordained deacon in 1875 and priest (C. of E.) two years later. He married a Dublin woman in Ranmore, Surrey in August 1874.

I wondered why he would choose to come to Dublin (I don't know of any Dublin connection for his family) rather than attend a university in Britain - would there have been financial/entry requirements/ academic standards difference? Or just that he had heard Irish women were beautiful😀?

    Thanks for any insight …
