Wiring of inverter

We've had solar PV panels installed and installer has now informed me that they would prefer to wire the inverter directly to the meter box instead of the fuse board as previously agreed.

I've been going around the houses trying to find a definitive answer online but can't. Is this wiring route acceptable or does it need to be wired to the consumer unit/fuse board?

    Hey,

That seems like a bad idea to me and most likely you'll run into trouble figuring out consumption vs export, because your inverter would have difficulties figuring out current flow direction.

Has he given you any explanation as to why he wants to do that? Maybe I'm missing something but I can't see any reason why he would do that.

I'm not even sure he's allowed to mess with the meter box, but then again, we're only selling equipment, not installing it, so I'm curious why he would want to do that.

It's to avoid having to bring the cables down the outside front of the house.

I just rang ESB networks to ask them if it's allowed and apparently it is. I just don't really understand the implications for me as a consumer/user of solar PV.

I've only heard of the wiring going to the fuse board so that's why I'm jittery about it.
