Fantastic bargain. Unlocked Pixel as always?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭romperstomper

There is no other kind of pixel

It doesn't have fast charge capabilities, once you've had it you can't do without it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,121 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

    It's 18w which is 2 ish hrs to 100%

Would I notice much of an improvement over my Pixel 3a? And does it still come with free Google Photos?

    Pixel 3a?

The National Museum of Ireland would live to hear from you.

I've a Poco f4. Camera seems ok, and it's got 67w charging. Anyone use them both?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,121 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

At a glance at the Poco it will be a faster phone, better screen, faster charging etc. Pixel is smaller lighter, stock android, OIS (optical stabilization) and google camera software. Very different phones.

Online if you don't change your number over it reverts to the higher price. Will they let you buy a €20 sim in store and buy for the lower price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

If I buy a new sim from tesco can I then switch straight over to 3 to get the offer?

Ive one of these with three, on a work account. I got it for free so I don't know about value I haven't been paying for phones for years but it's every bit as good as the Samsung it replaced. I think I'll stay with pixel phones now if they're available. It's my first I have it about a year.

I really don't get people buying flagship phones for 1000 euro.

I manage the phone account in work for about 60 mobiles and I only take whatever handsets three will give us for no additional charge over and above contract price, and they're perfectly fine.

Usually last year's mid range phones

    You'll notice a massive difference.

You don't get the free Google photos back up. But keep the 3a and transfer your photos to that and back them up for free from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭beardo81

Did you pick up the SIM card on tesco just before you bought the phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭mjp

I got this earlier in week but havent switched it over yet. smaller screen size take bit of getting used to as have redmi note pro which is good bit bigger. Disappointed if it doesnt have fast charge as my redmi had 67W fast charge which is very good. This doesnt come with a 3 pin plug either only a usb c to c cable. there is some sort of adaptor in box so might allow connect6 to regular usb plug.

I ordered a sim off vodafone site at no charge and once they delivered was able to port over the number so didnt have to waste any money on sim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭Gerrymandering reborn

Yes it was purchased a few hours prior. Just make sure you have the sim working in a phone as they need to send a text to verify the number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

Do you have a link to apply for a free VF sim card?

Google only brings up the UK site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,281 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

Pick any of the SIM only PAYG plans. They'll ask for card details at checkout but that's just for verification, no money is taken and you don't have to top up to port to Three.

I ordered an esim from Vodafone and the Pixel 7a from Three in about 15min. Thanks op.

Sorry for the ignorance..so could I order one of those and use my 48 sim? I'm guessing no,..

How did you order an esim?? I can't see it on Vodafone website.....how much was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

@RobertFoster provided a link a few posts up, if you go in to that and select a plan you get an option to order an esim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭R11

Thanks ,didn't see that. Is there a recurring cost of €20 a month though by ordering that esim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭bromley52

no. All free. The plan you choose is applied to the account. It's up to you to top up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭R11

Not a fan of Pixel 7a design personally, so I am not going to get it (thanks though, OP). However, the eSIM tip from Vodafone is great. Thanks to everyone who suggested it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭Sidford

Forgive the stupidity but just want to check this is the way to do it.

Order a esim from Vodafone, use that new number when ordering the phone from 3 and then once you get the new phone just throw in your existing SIM and all done

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 682 ✭✭✭GalwayGaillimh

wheres the option to an order an esim ? does it come in the email ?

Yes,order the esim. Then you'll get an email saying your esim has been provisioned. It has a link to retrieve esim details..there's a code you'll need in those details. Add your esim, use the code and activate your esim. Then you'll get a text message with your new Vodafone number, use that number when ordering the 7a. 3 will text a verification code to that number. Then place your order.

Pixels are unlocked so you can use any SIM

Order a pay as you go SIM,it gives the option of ordering an esim after you choose a plan

Free Vodafone eSIM ported to a Three eSIM with a good value Pixel 7a on the way. I can use the Three eSIM with Vodafone if a good furure offer comes up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,780 ✭✭✭pissed

Thanks OP, Pixel 7A arrived this morning. Did not have to top up by €20. Had an old Eir sim spare so used that to port. Total cost €239.99 and one day delivery. In the process of setting it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭Klingon Hamlet

Haha it still runs surprisingly smoothly :) I'm a fan of making things last as long as I can. Pictures still come out great. I think I'll wait.

Ha, I'm the same, my 3A that I got end Nov 2019 via a Vodafone offer for €180 still working nicely. Battery not as good as it used to be but I'm a light user no not really an issue. Above offer is tempting so thanks to the OP for posting but similarly will hold out another while until the 3A is on it's last legs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,346 ✭✭✭cullenswood

What is the battery life on these like?

Would you get a full day with heavy-ish use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭Gerrymandering reborn

I have the 4A which I got for €199. I'm having the same issue with battery.

Once thing I noticed that made a big difference was charging with adaptive charging on. Leave it to charge overnight - it charges slowly over 6-7 hours (basically it will be 100% by the time your alarm goes off)

I've done this and it has made a huge difference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭PreCocious

Thanks OP and thanks also to those who provided the info on the Vodafone eSims - that certainly speeds up the process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭The lips

Thinking of switching from my Pixel 4A, how are you finding the fingerprint sensor? It is useless on the 4A and I would not switch to another device with the same issue.

I've never used the fingerprint sensor. But I have both phones. To be honest there isn't a huge difference between them. The storage is the same. Only 2GB more Ram in the 7A. Google pixel phones are solid in general. If there's nothing wrong with your 4A, no need to replace. But you could buy the 7A as spare just in case

    Thanks OP,

Got the eSim for vodafone and used that to port to Three.

My phone got water damage so the timing for this offer was perfect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

Is there a way of avoiding paying the €20 top up if I order online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭bromley52

Yes, order online and the final charge will only be for the phone. You are only selecting the plan you want, not paying for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭hhmmm?

Typing this comment from my new 7a. Wasn't even in the market for a new phone but incredible value. Sold my old phone for €200 so really only cost me €30 to upgrade. Bought an eir SIM before Christmas for €10 that I used to save €100 off the Mrs phone when I swapped to Vodafone. Used that phone number again to swap over to 3. This will now be my "porting" number going forward!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

    Out of stock. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,859 ✭✭✭glanman

    ordered yesterday, just in time…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

Would any of the stores still have stock?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

Went in to one of the stores, they had the 7A but ended up buying an honor phone with 256G memory for €100 cheaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭R11
