Looking at an Opel Astra 1.2 petrol, 2020, but high mileage 106km. price around 14k.

Is that crazy mileage? I likely won't put much mileage on it as work locally.

I've had my own Astra 1.4 08 for 10 years without a bother, but it won't pass the NCT now without major investment.

No, not crazy at all. Higher than average but not crazy. If your doing low mileage yourself and your saving a few thousand compared to a lower mileage one then it could be a good buy.

106k km is just under 66k miles in old money. It's not huge mileage for a now 4 year old petrol car. Service history and price needs to reflect it though.

    Sounds perfect for ur use

That's only 60,000 miles in old money. Barely run in. I hate that, with the change to metric, 100k as the threshold simply changed from 100k miles to 100k km

My car is 2011 and is 75,000 KM. So thats low mileage is it?

    Very low mileage

2006 car here, only 145k km...

Anything under 10,000km per year can be considered low mileage for a petrol car.

Bigger diesel cars like BMW and Mercedes etc I would consider anything under 20,000km per year to be low mileage

That kind of mileage would not scare me in the slightest as long as some conditions were met.

I once bought a 2 year old car with 86k Kms on it and didn't hesitate. The price was reflective and the car had 5 main dealer service stamps with receipts to prove (had originally been a UK reg and serviced every 10k miles). I saved about €7k compared to a lower mileage example and I knew that by the time I sold on the car, it would have "average" mileage for the year.

aren’t these the disasterous 1.2 Puretech engine worth the disintegrating wet belt setup?

Could be, when did Stellantis take over Opel ? They are making fiat engines now too.

If it was puretech with wet belt I'd run a mile, the 1.6 Opel Diesel I'd run from also.

Ford fixed the ecoboost around 2020 but can't be sure when exactly and which models might have still had wet belts after this.

Opel started using the 1.2 PSA engine in 2019 in the Astra when they facelifted it.

Was it only the turbo's that got the wet belts ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

There are non turbo versions of that engine on smaller cars.

Reading conflicting info on whether the 1.2 that came out in 2019 was actually the PSAengine, or a GM engine called E-Turbo. They both are 1199cc, and power outputs are the same, so it’s hard to say.

It's a shame GM sold Opel but the brand was loosing money.

As other have said, slightly above average (around 16k km p.a.) but given that you will do lower mileage over time it will even out and you'll get a discount now and sell as an average mileage car. Make sure to get service history as it should have 4 done at the very least.

Some odd mileage comments, I alway understood about 20k km per year was average, has that changed?

I think average mileage has always been around 12k km for petrol and 16k km for diesel. 20k km is higher than average.
