Having failed the NCT I need to sort out my front suspension, there’s a failing shock on one side. I’m looking for recommendations on what to buy, genuine or not? Is there a decent aftermarket one? The car isn’t a pristine car that I’m fond of lavishly throwing money at, it’s just a daily driver that I’m stuck with, but I want good stuff down at the business end of things….?

On a car of that age I would probably just buy the cheapest set from your local motor factors, at least that way you know they’ll be at least half decent. You could also just get one second hand shock for the failing side.
