Hot Water Cylinder in advance of panels

    Hi,

Possibility our hot water cylinder is leaking but waiting on a plumber. If worse comes to worst and a full new cylinder is needed, what cylinder is rhe right cylinder to get in the hope of getting solar panels in next year? We have your typical system here - indirect vented cylinder; gas boiler and immersion which we never use - queue shouts of DID YOU TURN OFF THE IMMERSION?!

If trying to plan ahead, does anyone know what I should be looking at changing to?

    Thanks all

This would be nirvana for me - a heat-pump based cylinder integrated as part of the overall house ventilation strategy. It would probably be my next cylinder…

Used with a solar-charged battery it would be highly economical.

    On a lesser cost level

Solar is generally PV and in the short term, your better off exporting and heating it with gas.

But if trying to heat from pv, The location of the immersion is key, the lower (or longer) the immersion is the better, as it will only heat the water above it.

Is that an actual proven home set-up?? One of the examples it gives is a sports club?

Hmm. I guess I can see why - a kw of gas costs less than the income from a kw of FIT. Its as simple as that I assume?

I assume though, as I see it mentioned that people do integrate the hot water heating from solar - for right or wrong - so I assume there are certain cylinders you need for that?

Re the cost of gas Vs feed in, yep that's the sum.

Solar now is generally PV, (electric)

But solar thermal is another version, that does need a specific tank, and coil for it.

If going for solar now PV is the way to go,

To heat water from PV, an immersion is used, an device, an Eddi can vary the power to the immersion to match the solar "excess"
