Are new cars not fitted with indicators anymore?

Just waited for a while at a junction near me and over half didn't use them. Why? Does anyone get pulled over for this?

were there lanes for for left/right turn only? If so, I'd argue anyone in a turn-only lane doesn't need to use indicators - simply being in the lane indicates where you intend to go. Of course others may disagree (eg my OH) and I've no idea what the law on this is so I could be wrong.

My preference is for people don't know how to use indicators not to use them. A wise man once said, all a blinking indicator tells you is the bulb is working - this wisdom has saved me more than once

Indicators are automatic on all new cars like the lights which you don't have to dim for pedestrians or anything as the car takes care of everything now. You don't need to think at all anymore whilst driving

No it wasn't a one way turn lane. Anyway they should always be used as a matter of habit and anyone who doesn't know how to use them shouldn't be driving.

Really? Mustn't be working on lots of them then.

Indicating is a mandatory requirement at all junctions, whether there are filter lanes or not. It's a bad habit to get into where you would only indicate where there are no filter lanes. Indicating is not just for other vehicles.

For example A pedestrian waiting to cross on the road you intend to turn onto without indicating may not know there is a filter lane. Without an indicator, they may assume you are not turning and decide to cross the road as you turn.

So many motorists, so little indication ..

You're supposed to be a mind reader. The ones that annoy me wait until the lights go green to suddenly indicate they want to go right and hold up the line of traffic waiting to go straight on.

The lack of using turn signals is rampant these days. See it everyday. Not indicating when overtaking, not indicating when changing lanes or turning at junctions, etc. Seems to be from any cohort too rather than one in particular. Stinks of entitlement and general sh1tty attitude imo.

Like alot of other disregards for the ROTR these days, the lack of Garda presence and enforcement on the roads just encourages and normalizes this poor driver behaviour. No consequences equals no sh1ts given.

I don't use my indicator because it's nobodys business where I'm going

Anyone else hate cars that use their daytime lights as indicators? Is it really that expensive to have a dedicated indicator?

I don't use my indicators when turning into my road because everyone knows where I live.

I notice a lot of people don't use them in Antrim but maybe rules of the road are somewhat different here

Indicating at roundabouts seems to be a mystery to a very high proportion of people who actually use indicators. Said cohort seem to believe that going clockwise around a roundabout means you ALWAYS indicate right.

So how does anybody on the junction you're approaching know that the lane you're in is a turn-only lane? Boggers like you shouldn't be allowed on the road until you've evolved to the point of some ability to thing sentiently.

How did they pass their tests? Are they on their phones or something?

I've always thought of indicators as letting your intentions be known. Regardless of what road, junction or if there's a filter lane or not.

Not using them gives no chance to other drives if you just pull into a lane in front of them with no visual cue. It's like having no brake lights, without the person behind seeing them it's much more likely they won't brake in time and end up on your rear bumper.

We're conditioned to view red as stop and amber as caution from the day we start driving.

    I’m anti-orange - whether they’re left or right

    Club, Fanta or Miwadi?

    Possibly in a different order.

If I go home to Mayo, which has one of the highest pass rates in the country, to do my driving test it would be unreasonable to expect me to use my indicators in Galway, which has one of the lowest pass rates in the country, where I live and work.
