    Hi,

I am an ol timer. Back in my drinking days, i had 2 run ins with the law. I was involved in a drunken scuffle 35 years ago and was charged with assault. I got sentenced to 6 months of which I served no time.

Another charge around that time was 'drunk and disorderly'. (i wasn't the best of drinkers and give it up). I was fined €5 for this offence.

While I am quite ashamed of these incidents, they were my only run ins with law and nobody was physically hurt in the assault.

I had thought that over time (certainly 30 odd years), these crimes would be expunged from records but it is not so.

This record is preventing me from applying for work abroad (ie where checks are carried out).

I understand i am guilty of said offences and will take my punishment but I was surprised to see them up there in bold print on my Police certificate.

I have not drunk alcohol since back then. Is there anything I can do about this or is it just something I have to accept ?

I am fine with this is that's how it is but wondered if anyone has come across similar or has any suggestions

    Thanks
