Faulty ABS pump

Had car in with mechanic who fitted a wheel sensor I'd supplied. Didn't solve the problem and he believes its the ABS pump is gone. I've had a look online and they are mad money new, but the issue I have is the car is an e36 BMW (1994) so used parts in breakers are like hens teeth. Could order from eastern Europe on Ebay but there may be an issue with left vs right hand drive….

Another option may be getting it repaired as there are companies in Dublin and Cork doing it. Is it same or more expensive than getting something like injectors reconditioned? Any advice welcome.

It is the ABS module not the pump that is gone most likely, if you can get the module with the same code then it is just swap over.

There are places in the UK that can repair those modules, or you send them yours and they send you a reconditioned one, also no problem if you find the module from EU or elsewhere and it same code number then it just plugs in.

There's lots of places in the UK that do reconditioning of both the module and the pump. I think logic automotive in Rathcoole only do the module.

Has the mechanic read the actual fault codes or is he throwing parts at it?. If he reads the codes and gets solenoid faults or failure to communicate with ECU then the pump unit or module is at fault. The problem with your car is they are the very early abs units and are rarer. A left hand drive car will not make a difference as long as the part numbers of the pump/module are the same it should bolt right in. If the mechanic does not have the software to diagnose the problem then refitting a replacement pump may be an issue as you need to cycle the unit to bleed the system. This is done with the BMW software. The software is BMW INPA from memory and I have used it for various jobs on the older BMWs. I would check German Ebay for the pump/module as they would be more likely to have them in stock.
