Hypervolt 2.0 Solar CT clamp setup

I have a Hypervolt 2.0 with CT installed in the charge point. I never bothered installing the CT on the tails, as that would have meant a fresh data cable run which wasn't necessary, as the charger is on a priority switch with the shower and is almost exclusively used after midnight.

However, since getting the solar installed, I am wondering what is needed now if I was to charge one of the EVs on a sunny weekend from solar only.

On my Hypervolt APP, the solar icon (first time I have noticed it…not sure it was there before) shows generation of 6.7kW when I ramp up the max current. This isn't possible, because I know the solar was only generating half that amount when I took the screen grab. I'm not sure why the Solar icon is displaying at all, or why nothing is showing from the grid, or house. I am assuming the Charger doesn't know where the energy is coming from and for some reason is just showing it coming from Solar unless I am misunderstanding the icon display.

As part of the Solar install, I recall a CT connected within the new CU and connected to a Solar PV check meter iirc.

Do I need to run a CT from the meter tails to the EV charger? Do I also need one running from the Inverter to the charger, or what way should this be setup? TIA

It could be done via Home Assistant. You would not need to run any additional CT clamps.

    You will need:

    • any device that integrates with HA and reports total export/import. In your case the inverter but it could be any other device like Shelly with CT clamp etc.
    • a car charger with a decent HA integration that can control on/off and charging power state.

Then all you need is automation code that executes: if export is greater than 4kW and sun after sunrise but before sunset, then charge at 3.2Kw.

Also in the mains CT clamp must be before charger or any other device connection.

Thanks for that. I'm not ready for Home Assistant just yet. I use Alexa for the home and it works for me for now. I will go for HA this or next year, but it's just not for now.

Yep, it needs a CT at the ESB tails/meter.
