Sounds harsh on the surface but then there's this part of the article...

The European Commission’s office in Spain has clarified that the proposal does not intend to prevent necessary engine repairs or replacements in standard cars.

The regulation specifies conditions under which a vehicle is deemed technically irreparable or residual. These include extensive damage, such as being cut, welded, burnt, submerged, or exhibiting irreversible technical defects.

Controversially, a vehicle requiring major part replacements or whose repair costs exceed its market value could also be classified as residual

As long as they allow for Classics, then that's not so bad really. I wouldn't want to buy/be running a car that had any of the history mentioned in the above examples. As for the last sentence, isn't that how insurers operate currently anyway?

Whiff of the Farage/ Daily Mail with bendy bananas and other assorted BS off that piece to be honest, when you look at the detail.

This is being wildly misrepresented in the UK to try and claim some Brexit "win" by them not having it

Its basically stricter rules on reuse of parts from writeoffs and putting severely damaged cars back on the road.

This is nonsense, and was bandied about by the usual suspects.

’You will have the right to drive around in substandard or dangerous cars. Breathe in noxious fumes long since outlawed by technocrat in Brussels. Welcome to the sun lit uplands of Brexit! How do you like that Fritz?’

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

So when did europe care about anyone, if they not screwing farmers they're hitting motorists, it's the usual bullshit from europe who keep pushing through laws and say it's for all out benefits when it clearly is not,

As for the electric cars they are the biggest scam and rip off there is and even a bigger polluter than diesels yet they say they environment friendly, another lie, they are disposable like a mobile phone really and it's the big shots making huge money from cheating the ordinary people

Farmers who are entirely reliant on CAP and equivalent schemes for their income are far from being screwed.

You need to stop believing what you read in tabloids and crap online.

They are being screwed as not getting the prices they should be and there just too many stupid rules and regulations now coming from europe, everything up in price and no valid reason just the usual lies from Europe and even with their payments they make it so hard and even getting paid on these schemes is a nightmare and payments are made to keep people in line and doing what they say, it's just not in farming, there too many idiotic rules and laws coming from Europe and basically it to control and make the people do what they want, they are corrupt as fuk and we all know it.

I got 3 cars over 15 year old and in pristine condition, they are just trying to get all cars that are owned gone and get people to buy new electric cars on HP where the cars never yours really, Europe etc want the people to own nothing but want to own you and its gradually happening

Even insurance companies are not quoting now for cars over 10 years old and I see it going down further.

The EU doesn't control market prices

You are reading, and believing, absolute bollox you're being fed by anti-EU people; including this. There is absolutely nothing changing in owning or repairing cars over 15 years of age - but there are a bunch of liars trying to convince people there are

I'm closing this thread as it there is nothing to it - someone linking to a deliberate misinterpretation of the facts, intended to make people irrationally angry at the EU (the article writers, not the OP)
