Ineligible for SEAI grant

I recently just completed a home energy upgrade and installed solar panels as part of that. I was going through the SEAI website and it says that unless you created your application before the works were carried out you're ineligible. Called them and they said the same. Has anyone any experience of getting around that requirement? I accept that I should have made myself aware of this in advance but it seems mad that you get nothing for not taking this step even though we're trying to do the right thing.

Kinda crazy the contractor didn't mention the grant to you.

Were they on the list of SEAI contractors? That's a requirement unfortunately.

Yeah they are and they included the grant in their quote!

Odd they didn't follow the rules, as in the grant is supposed to come before they start work.

I'd be asking them to cover the grant in that case as they messed up.

I'd probably open with explaining that it was a mistake and providing evidence the installation complies with the regs.

Hopefully they see sense and reverse the decision to deny the grant

Well it turns out my better half had applied for it unbeknownst to me. Thankfully one of us was on the ball but it would be very easy to get caught out!
