Thoughts on '06-'08 Mini?

My 20 year old car was hit (other party at fault) and it looks like it will be written off. as I was not planning to get a new car my budget will be about 2k-2.5k

Putting that plus petrol plus valid NCT into Donedeal, for 90% of the cars available I'd rather get the bus! But I'm seeing Minis that look good in my budget.

I'd go for the 1.4 (the One?) or 1.6 (the Cooper?). Given that BMWs of that era seem to have a bad reputation, what are these Minis like?

Also, I recall a Wheeler Dealers (think Ant Anstead era) where they did a Mini, and to do a major service (100,000 mile?) he had to take the complete front end off. Maybe this was a high performance one like a JCW, but also maybe it was one that I'm looking at and a job like a cam belt? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Absolutely avoid, the only car you should be considering with that budget is a Toyota Yaris or Nissan Micra, or something else Japanese.

They're a maintenance nightmare. I know a few mechanics who flatout refused to work on them back in the day.
