Solar Tiles

Hi,

I m currently planning a self build and I plan to maximise the use of solar. Has anyone had any experience with solar tiles as an option instead of building a conventional roof then covering it with panels?

Cost Vs conventional tile roof + Panels?

Efficiency compared to panels?

Insurance implications?

was that the premium passive house? jeez the project nearly broke the two. the panels look sweet but i'm sure for their project the cost the guts of 20 to 30k and could power several homes.

These used normal solar panel that are recessed in the roof. The roof is new. So tiles from most of rood, but solar panels as the tiles for parts they cover (I’ve no idea how they keep water out). Thanks all,

I have come across the Tesla roof tile but I cannot find any information if they are available here in Ireland. Then I am nearly sure these are the ones from the Grand designs episode.

not sure. turns out it cost £118k! that could be the overall roof cost, its not entirely clear from the clip. he said he was generating about 230kWh per day in May 🤣

I think so. Or was it that they wanted to use the supply but didn't put batteries in?

Remember that was a massive house, with massive roof footage, more modest house would cost a lot less

I think they were limited from the NC6 (equivalent) .

They were too far from the substation or something .

Probably should have enquired before wasting all that money.
