Anyone else have an interview with a superintendent? I have mine next week. I met with the sergeant a few weeks back, just wondering how this one might differ from the sergeant interview if anyone had theirs yet.

Hi folks, just got word I'm batch 5 up at 140ish. Have ye any idea how long it'll take for the fitness and medical. Judging by the previous comments I won't be quitting my job anytime soon.

Would appreciate a rough time scale from now until training if possible.

    Thanks for your help

Expect fitness and medical and garda vetting to be complete in the next 6 weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 sligo98

the vetting is highly unlikely to be finished in 6 weeks it’s a very long process you can be 6-18 months waiting on the vetting alone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 sligo98

unless you mean getting the form b which yeah that’s correct

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 kevmac07

100% agree but what I ment was that the medical and fitness test will be done in next 6 weeks and also the garda vetting form will be sent in for review 👍 😀 Then expect to be left sitting waiting for few months 🙈

Everyone’s vetting is different, depending on the amount of information you have to give on it, if you have ever lived abroad or any of your family members have, this can take the process longer.. you could be lucky and it can could be straight forward..

they are moving pretty quickly through them, offers are out for some people to take up a place in the first intake on the 16th December, and that’s from the this round of recruitment since Feb…

I was told some of the September intake where from this year's competition i.e. batch 1. May not be true however.

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭Tra112

oh maybe so, could be possible..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 AssassinJimmy100

I have done the fitness test (past), medical done (waiting to hear results) and vetting in. I know vetting can take ages but what is the time frame for medical results, and hearing about next stages?

Anyone that got an email about their eyesight on the medical, has anyone gone the laser route? One eye is slightly too weak unaided and I dont want to delay too long after getting the call about the dec intake

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭Murphy2024

anyone from batch 2 have their sergeant interview yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 cod5

I was also in a similar position. I had my medical results in late August and the sight in both my eyes was nowhere near the standard unaided. I went and recently got PRK surgery. The main difference between PRK and LASIK is the recovery period and there’s also a slight difference in how the procedures are performed. I was recommended to do PRK if I was becoming a guard because with LASIK there’s a risk of the flap lifting in your eye if you ever got hit into the face. There’s lots of different clinics to look into and they usually do a free consultation first to see if you are eligible for either surgery.

Recovery time was rough. It’s about a week for PRK and the first 2-3 days you can barely open your eyes. But my vision now is 20/20 and it was all very worth it.

Id recommend getting it sorted quickly if you really want to be a guard. I don’t know how long they will hold your application for if you don’t get it sorted.

Batch 2 also, was hoping to get a call for a sergeant interview this week. No call yet 🙈

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 Doc95

    Any link pls

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 sligo98

Im batch 1 and still no sergeant interview was hoping it would be this week, hrpd emailed wednesday just a few basic checks on my form b like confirming certain family members dont have a middle name officially or explaining why some have n/a for jobs who were all deceased so it was an easy answer😂 hopefully we get sergeant interview asap

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭Tra112

you more then likely won’t get the sergeant interview until your vetting is completed and it seems they are still working on that since they have come back with them queries…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 sligo98

They told me when she rang about december intake the sergeant interview will be at a later stage of vetting so i think you can still have interview before vetting clears

I also got a call this week about form B issues to clear up, they said they are processing alot of files to the vetting unit so I would be expecting a sgt interview in the next weeks.

Im Batch 2 all stages complete

    hello all,

1.Has anyone lived in America and know maybe in approx how long the Garda vetting takes or even in approx how long after the interview the process is?

    2. Has anyone ever went off travelling while you were/are awaiting for the job?

    Thank you 😊

    Hi,

When you are finished the beep test is it straight into the sit ups and push ups, or do you get a little break after the beep test before you start the sit ups and push ups..

    thanks..

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 sara1999

Rang HR during the week and the lady on the phone said they are looking at my suitability at the moment!

I’m in batch 1, would that mean my vetting is through and they are looking at my overall application before offering a date, anyone have this before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 1234_1234

that is what is happening to me too. They are saying awaiting suitability checks so it’s still a part of the vetting

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 Darceyrocco

got notified by public jobs last Monday that I had passed interview but no email from Garda head quarters , anyone she’s some light or in the same batch 5

  • Registered Users Posts: 181 ✭✭po candidate

Have your competencies ready. Read over your report you did when you did the test and why you would do what you said you would in the report. Think about how you might deal with stress, time management and engaging with local community as a Garda. It's not a memory test so if you need notes then use them. I wouldn't read off notes but having them as a prompt is fine. Stick them on a wall behind the computer your using so you can glance at them If needed.

    Good luck!

does anyone know what’s it like getting time off when your in the college? Are you able to take a week off if you’ve something booked?

I wouldn’t be too sure but I’m assuming it’d be much the same as university in the way if you miss class it is up to you to catch up. I’d imagine you cannot do this if there are tests or assessments that week. Have you got a start date yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭Tra112

    Hi,

Done the medical the end of August and haven’t heard anything back, do they inform you either way about it, does anyone know?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 boards_24

no just done the interview lol just thinking if I was to get through all the stages

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 sligo98

I dont think getting time off is an option unless its something extremely important such as bereavement or birth of child or something along those lines

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 boards_24

    oh really, okay thanks !

Hi everyone. I’m in batch 5 and am just completing form B. Does anyone know a way to save it and come back to it? Silly question maybe. But I don’t know how to fill some in and then come back without losing what I’ve done so far?

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭Tra112

it should give you the open to save draft at the end of whatever page you are working on and then an email will be send to you straight away with the link on it to let you continue from where you left off..

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭Tra112

    sorry ‘option’ not open

    Feels like forever ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 boards_24

I wonder what the hold up is. A lot of you seemed to pass all the stages ages ago

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 Darceyrocco

hey did Garda head office send you that form b or are you filling it out the one that public jobs sent in a link ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Road Runner 999

Hi all,i heard from a reliable source many who were called for interview never showed up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Road Runner 999

I had my interview in the last few days, the panel were very nice to be.fair.Anyone know how long it takes before you know if you pass or failed interview. Fingers crossed but I was so nervous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 gdub1989

It took around 3 weeks from when I did it. I did mine in July. If you pass they will send you a link with the form B (Vetting form). Have a good look at it when you get it, and start gathering information. Mine took ages as I'm married, so had to fill out loads of information about my in laws. HRPD will send you the vetting form electronically to fill out. I've got my pct, medical and drugs misuse test completed, as of the end of September just waiting to hear on the next stage of the process now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 picizau

I was wondering if anyone from batch 2 is waiting for the PCT and medical? Everyone so far says they had it completed, but I am still waiting. I did get a call in Septemeber, to clarify some things that didnt upload on form b, and they asked will I be ok for Decemeber if tests and vetting will go ok. But still- wasnt called for PCT yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 181 ✭✭po candidate

I'd get onto Garda HR. I was batch 4 and have had two invites for PCT one of which was 3 days after interview result. Give them a ring to enquire, I found them helpful when I rang.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 Darceyrocco

@procandidate. How long after practice invite were you callled for actual test .

I never got an offer to go down for familiarisation. I got an invite to do test 3 after days after being told I past which I declined. They didn't hold me to it. They had cancellations and I think a few here got an email. The next invite was a few days later. I had to book medical, pct and vetting. I had to postpone the 2nd date due to injury. Have PCT this Sat.
