Hi, any recommendations for Bareroot Hedging Suppliers, I can get Whitethorn locally but no other varieties. you are supposed to have a mix of at least three.

I think one species is OK now. They rowed back due to lack of supplies/anticipation in planning etc. Do check but I'm fairly sure the whitethorn on its own will be OK.

I just checked with the Acres helpline and apparently its still 85% for one variety and you still need 2 more varieties for the rest. I did hear someone else mentioning about the 1 variety as well but I can't find any information on it.

They would want to give an extension on hedging due to the clusterf*ck with payments. It's the very least DAFM could do now for farmers

It would be great if it definitely was the case of 1 variety. Has it been published anywhere?

Why go to the bother of planting a hedge and only put one type of plant in it?

They're sold out with the last couple of weeks according to their social media accounts. Delivery is only available if you spend €500+ AFAIK.

OP, Future Forests (027 66176) may be worth a try. You're only looking for 65 whips/100 metres to meet the minimum standard. There's hardly that much of a shortage countrywide.

    It's 6 whips per metre

5 per metre, two lines 30cm apart, staggered. Whitethorn only will do. Sadly, almost all are being imported now, with the risk of bringing fire blight into the country. Needs to come from an authorised source, can't get from a neighbour.

5 whips per metre is the spec. OP can source the white thorn so to meet the 85% maximum of one variety they need 0.75 whips/metre to achieve the 15% diversity in the hedgerow. (My calculation above was incorrect, apologies.)

Personally, I wouldn't go any higher than 50% of any one variety in a hedgerow for myself. There are plenty native species that will thicken well in a hedgerow and even more that will grow to a full size tree in the row if allowed.
