    We are due to travel with Ryanair from Ireland to Scotland at Easter time. Does a child under 2 need to have a passport or a form of ID to travel.

    I’d get a passport

    from web

    When travelling with Ryanair, we generally accept 2 forms of ID:

    • A valid passport;
    • A valid National Identity Card.

    We do not accept a driver's license or birth certificate for travel to any location. It is each passenger’s responsibility to carry Photo ID which meets our requirements and the requirements of the relevant Immigration Authority.

    There are different rules for different destinations, so please be sure to check these before you travel.

    Needs to have their own passport; or fly Aer Lingus who don't have any requirements.

    There are no exceptions for minors on international Ryanair flights of any kind

    It absolutely won't.

    I'm leaning towards that. Their website is a bit vague and there is plenty of contradictory information elsewhere.

    You'll find references to them taking birth certs, then find its for Italian domestic flights or something - for an International, even when the law says you don't need a passport, Ryanair will demand it.

    First time passports for children are taking months also so I'd act as quick as you can just to make sure you have it in time.

    Here's the answer I got from their chat.

    All customers (including infants) needs to present a valid passport or a National Identity Card when travelling on a Ryanair Flight. This includes flight between Ireland and the UK. Driving licences are NOT an acceptable form of ID. If you need to make changes to your Travel Documents under your MyRyanair account, login to your account and access your ‘Dashboard' section to make the changes

    you'd want to get a move on with applying as a first time passport can take quite a while to process.

    Of course if you flew with Aer lingus, or took the ferry (with an infant, thats not bad as you have all your baby stuff with you, and you have your own transport when in Scotland) then you dont need any ID for kids so long as they are a british or irish citizen, and a birth cert would suffice.
