Hi Everyone. I have a question please. My Father has his own Herd Number and is registered with Acres etc. I am going to inherit the farm in Time and am registered to do my Green Cert this year. I want to rent a yard and feed some young cattle. Can I get my own Herd Number and is so whats the process for this. Thank you in advance

To get maximum 5 years of cisyf wait until green cert completion to put your name to a DAFM herdnumber

Better to go into partnership under his herd number that way all current entitlements will get topped up and you can still rent the yard and register under cattle under the the current herd number.

As above though wait until you have the green cert to maximise use of the 5 year top ups etc.

Also dont rush as you can have a plan to maximise the use of TAMS young farmer grants at 60%. This clock starts ticking on the 5 years from once you get your herd number.

Holding for a year and putting a plan in place on how to use this in conjunction with the young farmer BISS top up could make life easier for the next 10 years. I could have done the same when younger, but holding for year or 2 won't break you and will leave in a stronger position. I used the young farmer BISS top up to fund investment and this really helped along with the 60%grant and vat back

Don't rule out partnership. Sit down with a planner talk out a plan and then go a second or third opinion.

Need a 5 - 10 year plan to maximise young farmer payments, national reserve and potential tams etc.
