Baptism Cert but no birth certificate

Bit of help please. I have a baptism certificate at St Nicolas of Myra ,Dublin, in 1953. However, doesn't look like the birth was registered at GRO. I have relatives who can vouch for birth etc, so how can I now obtain an 'official' birth cert?

It is funny this thread has come up. I have just gone through this with my buddy trying to claim an irish passport.

My friend had his grannies baptism cert from 1890 something, but there was no birth cert to be found and it appears she was never registered. We took guidance from a lady called Catherine who does work like this. She found enough info and guided us to the relevant office, think its Roscommon, where a lady put the jigsaw together, registered the birth, and away we went.
