Civil service clerical officer nationwide

Morning..just looking for information please..I’ve applied for position of clerical officer and was successful on interview. I phoned the public service department yesterday and was told I’m no.7 oom for my area choice. In my current job according to my contract I need to give 8 weeks notice as I’ve been there 17 years. Should I hand in my notice now? I wouldn’t mind a week or two off before I start my new position

Hi there, congrats on the interview success! I wouldn't hand in anything yet, I was no. 13 on the panel for my local county council after my interview in August last year. I contacted HR in November and by that stage I was no. 6 and haven't heard from them since. There's no telling how soon it could be and these things move pretty slow, could be a good few months of waiting sll. Once they make contact there's a good few weeks before you get started anyway, waiting for Garda clearance etc so best to hold off for now!

It can be pretty frustrating though, just waiting with no idea when your number will come up, I'm on 2 other panels also and I've pretty much checked out mentally of where I'm working at the minute, just coasting by until my number comes up, best of luck!
