queueing process for trains between Dublin and Belfast

The queueing process for trains between Dublin and Belfast and even return is strange. One has to line up just to enter a train? Only at the last minute they open up the entrance to the platforms and let you board. Why do they do that? It's not a security issue, nor are there passport controls between Dublin and Belfast?

All the other trains don't have that, not in the Ireland or in the UK. So, why to Belfast? and from Belfast to Dublin?

I've often wondered about that, but I am sure there is some valid explanation, like separating First and second class or not enough room on the platform, or the cleaners need to do their thing, etc. etc. etc. But I am interested to find out too!

The cleaners and catering need too their bit before passengers board.

But the trains to Cork or Sligo or Galway don't have that kind of procedure. So why for Belfast?
