3hr Heathrow connection?

    Hi all,

I have booked two separate flights that are connecting in heathrow. The connection is 3hr 10min but they are two separate tickets AND I will have a checked bag.

I am starting to think even with 3 hrs this could be too tight. Below the heathrow site says I will need 90 minutes to transfer from T5 to T2. I presume that does not include baggage collection, checking in at T2 and baggage drop off? I looked up the BA flight average punctuality and its only ok, I would have thought it mostly would have been on time.

As the second flight is air china I basically have to check in at the airport.

    Thanks

China Airlines leaves from the terminal Aer Lingus uses, would have been easier to fly EI. At T5 you will be able to bypass the border on arrival and go straight to baggage collection unless BA has an interline agreement with CA and they tag the bag through to the final destination at Dublin.

it’s more cumbersome than an airside transfer without luggage but 3 hours should be plenty.

BA won't check bags through on separate tickets even for BA - BA flights so don't count on that being an option. Don't forget that 3 hour connection is more like a 2 hour one as checkin for bags for air China probably closes 45-60 minutes before the flight.

I had a two hour connection at Heathrow ten years ago, baggage transferred by airline, still needed to run most of the way. I think your time is tight, especially now that flights are delayed so frequently.

Why not reduce the stress and book aer lingus to arrive at T2 at 1.25pm. Or earlier options if you preferred. Around 60€ at the moment
