SSE Airtricity Gas Estimate

Bought a house about six months ago. I have Gas and Electricity with SSE.

Got a bill notification which was astronomical for Gas based on an Estimated Meter reading that bore absolutely no relation to my previous usage (presumably it must have been based on the last owners usage).

I submitted the actual meter reading online, 10 days before the bill was due to be taken out via Direct Debit, but it obviously had no effect in time as the "astronomical" amount was taken from my account today.

Logging in I see the meter reading has taken effect today and I now have 950 euro of credit. Have I any recourse to demand that they return this money?

It is a bit ridiculous just before Christmas to be charged that much on estimations that have nothing to do with my usage?

    Thanks.

You could recall the direct debit, which you can do under SEPA rules. The company could then issue a correct bill?

    Maybe ring the company?

just call them, they will absolutely give you it back, they ask for something like 10 days (i got a refund because they took 50 euro which was my mistake for breaking contract a day early, they said fair enough we wont apply it) they made a mistake and didnt process the refund after the time, i called back and they had a system to fast track it within a couple of days, i'd imagine with it being that much you could ask for it quickly if you need the cash.

Cheers for the responses. I'll ring them tomorrow and see how it goes. I dont massively need it, but Id rather have it than leave it with them.
