No heat upstairs????

Had to drain system recently due to building work. Had some trouble refilling but got there.

House is in 3 units and very old ~1850 and heating itself is old in terms of pipework etc, gas boiler is relatively new.

Have good heat in 2 units nearest the boiler, one on same level, other one floor immediately above it.

But main house which has 3 stories has no heat whatsoever.

I've tried everything I can think of - bleed the radiators (some of the values are non standard size but think I've managed to bleed nearly all at this stage. Some had ~10 minutes of air come out, followed but hot water but next time I turned system on, nothing. Retried bleeding but no air this time and no heat.

Tried adjusting lockshields in 2 units closest to the boiler, closed all (clockwise) and opened a quarter turn - no difference upstairs.

Tried turning all radiators off in units with heat and retrying bit still nothing upstairs.

Anything else you could suggest I try please?

    Bit chilly here!!!

    Thanks!

I'll guess that you have airlocked the system on the third unit. Is the system closed loop with mains refill (so with good pressure)? If so, with the system off, open the top-up valve fully and go to one of the rads in unit 3. Open the lock-shield and TRV fully, then open the bleed valve then close off the TRV side leaving the lock-shield open. See if it shifts the lock while you bleed off water. If that doesn't shift it, then close the lock-shield and try the same with the TRV open instead. Repeat on the other rads if needs be. Just have plenty of rags and buckets ready. Plus don't forget to re-add inhibitor and close off the filling loop afterwards.

Unfortunately it's not closed. Fills from attic through expansion tank. Only ever had 1 bar in system and at 1 at minute. Any way to clear air?

Just follow the method outlined, should clear if you chase it through from both feed and return. 👍️

1 bar! Wow. I don't get that from my mains 😂

My brother had the exact same issue and cleared it in the way 10-10-20 describes.

But to do it, he decided the bleed valve was too slow. So he attached a hosepipe to the top most rad at the bleed valve point (1/2 inch to 1/2 inch coupler - forced the hose into one side and screwed the other side into the rad). Opened the feed valve fully and let it rip into the toilet. That did the trick.
