What is wrong with BMW?

I’ll try keep this short . I bought a new 231 420d in January. It developed a fault - it basically needs a new PDC sensor. At present none of the sensors work on the car . Car has been like this since June .

car was booked into BMW garage - fault not fixed as needed a new part . Back to garage 4 times - part not on order - part on order - part might take weeks to come in . Same old story - no interest in resolving and frankly didn’t care as I didn’t buy from them ( I never will).

so I contacted BMW Ireland via email twice - they haven’t responded to my emails .

the garage I bought from offered to fix but it would require me to do a 6 hour round journey and day off work . They couldn’t understand why the local garage won’t do it as they get paid to do it under the warranty.

i get it isn’t the end of the world but this also effects the workings of the camera and I know it’s a simple fix . You pay €70k for a car you want it to be right or just fix the car !!!

Why are BMW so difficult to get in touch with - Why don’t they just fix the car - it’s such a minor issue .

I really can’t keep going in and out of that garage to get the same reply .

whst would you do ? Any suggestions?

if you aren't getting anywhere, which it sounds like you're not..

Starting posting on social.. Tag them in posts to twitter, facebook etc.. I'd even create an instagram video of the car, explaining the issue and mentioning BMW/BMW Ireland frequently throughout

Find the garage/dealer on Google, and leave an in depth bad review

Finally if that gets you nowhere, look up the owner/director of the garage/dealer on LinkedIn.. and write a post tagging them in the post

You're not the first person I've heard of that has had similar issues with BMW. It amazes me why someone would spend 70k on one, but each to their own :) I'm not about to start criticising you on what you spend your money on

Sounds like pretty lousy service. Is there not another BMW dealer nearer than the one you bought the car from? Where in the country are you?

they lost their way after the E39

Generally, I contact the salesman who I dealt with. Tell them I'm dropping the car off, and want a loaner until the issue is resolved. I'll normally copy the service director and aftersales director on that email too. BMW Ireland will be of no use from my experience.

I didn’t buy in Galway - if I went to the garage I bought off there would be no issue , however that is a 6 hour round trip and day off wrk

That kind of comes with the territory of buying a car from ages away from where you live.

Yes the other garage will get the warranty payment form BMW, but they probably don't care too much if they're already busy with their own customers.

Not my experience with other makes - e.g. Annesley Motors fought Skoda hard for goodwill on a Superb out of warranty, even though I bought the car privately. You shouldn't have to bring your car back to the dealer you bought it from- in general the service dept probably don't know and don't care when you bought it as they will be treated as separate profit centre within the garage anyway. BMW Ireland really should be sorting this

similar to what a BMW mechanic said to me a few years ago - "they should have stopped at the E39"

one phone call to a solicitor and a letter from them to the lads in BMW and they won't be long running and getting there ass in gear you have been more than reasonable with them

It's a typical Irish main dealer attitude. If you didn't buy from us, FC uk off. I will never understand

    this attitude.

Sales will sell the first car but the aftersales department will sell the second depending on their level of

service. How are you supposed to gain customers by treating them in a sh11ty manner.

One reason dealers aren't keen to look at a car they didn't sell under warranty is the often low warranty labour rate they are paid. I was After Sales Manager at a Nissan dealer & the warranty rate was unbelievable.

BMW are a shadow of what they were, that goes for their motorcycles as well, great shame.

True. I worked for Citroen UK for a while and the dealers warranty rate was pretty good. This was late 90's and 00's.

Plus they got cost plus 10% on parts used. Dealers here hate spending money on training technicians too so a lot are

afraid of taking on work they don't understand and can't fix so don't want to "inherit" the issues.
