I am thinking of using my smartphone as a wifi hotspot.

I can get 2 bars reception only on the phone.

Is this going to work long-term?

I can get unlimited data plan with Vodafone.

I must be the only house in ireland that never got broadband. Have always used hotspot and hubby same, kids are in 20's now and when their credit was gone it was gone our 14yr old has phone and is not constantly glued to it, he eats dinner with us and watches TV with us. He uses his hotspot to play Farming simulator with the lads, We have him on gomo €9.99 per month we've had that last 7/8 yrs as hotspot was what it was originally gotten for. I'm vodafone 2 bars also but no issues connecting to pc when I need to do some work & for watching prime.

You will hammer the battery on the phone.

For meetings or gaming you need to test out its stability, see if connection drops. I have only really used it as backup for work.

What will you be using it for?

Are you trying to stream via a smart tv?

Not planning heavy use. Looking at websites, not streaming, max 1 hour per day.

I think you should be ok with that kinda usage.

Should be ok, do it myself when I go to a relative in a very rural area in the west, no internet connection in the house and I use hotspot without much issues. Just check out what is classed as unlimited package, there is always a limit of some description in the fine print.
