So u have digiweb and my contract is up so i thought ill switch to VirginMedia specially since they have the xbox deal. At the moment i have both connections and im getting the following speeds:

    digiweb: 428Mbps and 6ms ping

    virginmedia: 642Mbps and 16ms ping

why is the ping so much higher on Virgin media? i don’t mind the speed but i need low ping as i play online games alot. I’m considering cancelling virgin media and staying with digiweb specially since I'm in the cancellation period at the moment. Any thoughts?

It's to do with routing of traffic. As far as I know Virgin is owned by Liberty Media and most of their traffic is routed to Europe (Amsterdam I think) and then onto the relevant destination. In the past I've found that to get to a UK server, I've been routed to Amsterdam or Frankfurt and then back to the UK, instead of using a more direct hop from Ireland to the UK directly.

Also are you sure you are pinging the exact same IP address on the two networks?

Be careful. Despite being out of contract, Digiweb charged me a cancellation fee. When I get over my infection, I'll have to fight them on the phone for reimbursement.

Virgin never sent the €100 One4all gift card so expect a fight with them too regarding your Xbox.

You only have to give 30days notice for cancellation if out of contract.

I remember that back in the Day sign up to horizon and never got the gift card either!
