Ive declared my car off the road until the end of January. (3 Months as minimum) Does anyone know if say in Jan 5th if I want to re-tax the car and start driving again I can? or do I need to wait until the Declaration is finished.

    Thanks

You can tax your car during the period of declaration if you wish to return it to the road.

Yes you can tax your car online and duve it again within minutes. Note tax is a whole month at a time minimum 3 months so best to retax on 1st of month.

I regularly declared my spare car off the road during covid but I needed it to tow so it got taxed when I needed to use it.

The other thing to know is you need to declare you car off the road BEFORE existing tax runs out otherwise you are eligible to pay another whole month. I think you can declare it off the road in advance of the actual date it's off the road so declare on the 25th it will be off the road from the end of the month in case your forget to fo it.

Thanks for the info, Yeah I only recently bought the car and it had no tax. But I was able to declare it off the road within 21 days of date of transfer I think it was. Car Needs a few bits done to it bought it as a bit of a project car. Declared it off the road until Jan 31 but I could have it back driving around early January all going well. Was just checking to see if i was "Locked in" in a way with the declaration but seems not.
