Anyone any good advice on stoves?

I'm looking at either an inset stove in my existing fire place, or else removing the fireback and putting a standalone in the ope.

A y advice on what would heat the room more?

When I put mine in the way I looked at it was with the stove out in the open I would get all the heat from it and the flue pipe into the room. I have no idea if that's the best way so others will have to give advise on if it is the best way.

I've had both types. Inset stove is cleaner. Free standing - much better for heat. I would only go for morso or jotul, both scandinavian. You can buy cheaper stoves, but they're not for me.

you should go for a wood pellet stove if your budget allows (€3.7k)….best thing we ever got….Klover brand is one type but I’m sure there are others, they are the stand alone type…..15kg of pellets are loaded /stored within the stove and no matches/firefighters/coal/sticks are needed…….they can be started remotely using an app and require maybe a weekly clean/hoover out depending on use and best of all pellets are about half or even less the price of coal €12 for 15kg bag and if you buy in bulk even less….😀
