High pressure boiler

    Hi all,

I have a gas boiler that regularly cuts out due to high pressure. I release the pressure with the fitting in the hot press and it works again. But this is regularly happening. A new thermostat was put in the hot press and the boiler has been serviced.

It's still an issue. Is there anything I can do? Or does it need to be replaced.

I think the part giving the most trouble is your service person, going on the information posted here.

Is your service person a rgi?

On who's advice was thermostat changed? Who recommended releasing the pressure on an ongoing basis?

Yes, he's registered to service gas boilers. He told me about releasing the pressure valve in the hot press and to reset the boiler to get it going again after it cuts out.

He said to get the thermostat changed in the hot press with a plumber, to fix the issue long term. Which I did. But the issue continues every few days.

I could be wrong, but I'd have no confidence in your rgi.

Did he explain the problems that constantly letting off water would create? Did he explain the reasoning behind changing the thermostat?

Perhaps what you're calling a thermostat is a pressure reducing valve, post a picture of it.

Sorry, you're right, it's a pressure release valve. I'm not there now so can't post a pic. It's the thing with the bars behind a circular piece of glass.

If you turn the knob underneath you hear a hiss. I let the pressure out, then tighten it back, then reset the boiler below in the sitting room and it comes back on.

Wouldn't the pressure vessel being faulty be the most likely cause of the issue?

    Pressure vessel

The pressure thing in the hot press is what the plumber recently replaced.

OK, I get it... It's located in the actual gas boiler, not the hot press. That's what must be faulty. Pressure vessel..

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Gas man will replace it.
