    Hi Guys

I am just wondering if any of use have used feeding rails instead of diagional barriers for feeding smaller weanlings or even store cattle as my barriers only has 9 spots it is restricted for weanlings and sometimes I find that smaller or poorer weanling or even young calves sucking cows can't reach the floor with the barriers so have any of you changed to feeding rails for this purpose? Also could get more into a pen as 9 spots limits the amount of weanlings per pen. Or are the barriers still better over all?

I will have timber from the floor up.

I've both types here, usually prefer the diagonal ones to be honest. You may get a few more in with the bars but they need to be well matched in size or bullying becomes an issue.

Slanted bales, pit you'll be OK with straight

yeah ,we have both and they definitely drag in some of the bales silage with the straight

Go for the diagonal barrier. Firstly with the bar, the cows get lumps in their necks. Second they will pull in a lot more silage. And then you have the small calves going out on the feeding passage

Cheers guys so it seems the issue I'm trying to correct would be worse with the bars maybe I should have the option available to lower a barrier or two instead of the feed rails

Have both here but don’t carry many smaller weanlings. The straight are grand when feeding pit silage but they drag in a lot when on bales. I’d go with the diagonal barriers for smaller stock.

A light horizontal bar going across half way up held on with a few u clamps like above will stop the small lads going out

Both types here, feed both bales and pit. If you have a narrow passage be careful with diagonal barriers. Easy to catch a head with the wheel of a tractor or loader. I have that badge unfortunately
