Welding Mild Steel and Stainless Steel

Going to make some pins to hang gates using round bar and a washer.

Either I bought the wrong washers or the wrong ones were provided, but I've ended up with stainless washers instead of mild steel washers.

Can these be welded together and put through the galvaniser? There will be no real force in the weld - the washer is just to be the head of the pin.

U will need a different rod to weld the two together 312-17 , I just think the galv won't stick to the stainless, u could get them metal sprayed instead

Any mild steel rod will weld them just fine, stainless rods are expensive and seeing as your welding mild steel to stainless there is no need for them.

Galvanising however I'm not sure about, it might not bind to the stainless part but I can't think of any reason why it can't be done.

Stainless steel and mild steel together will rapidly galvanically corrode the mild steel.

Stainless and mild should never be in direct contact

Finding it difficult to get M27 mild steel. Most mild steel are galv dipped - bright zinc plated/BZP.

Might just get them and grind off the galv finish.
