Legal fees for divorce

    Hi all,

I am in the middle of divorce proceedings. It has been agreed that I release my share of the family home for a sum. That money has recently been paid out by the bank and has been transferred to my solicitor. Shortly after this I received a letter from my solicitor informing me of this and then mentioned the current fees outstanding. I agreed to pay the fees out of the lump sum and they then forward on the balance to me.

Here's my issue/point: I did not receive an invoice/bill/detailed breakdown of the fees. I was literally informed of the amount in one sentence in a letter regarding the buyout money from the property. Now if I went to Tesco or had a meal in a restaurant I'd expect a bill. Is this practice normal in the legal industry? Where would I stand in requesting details in a formal manner such as a bill. I'm struggling to justify the fees and yes, I'm well aware that solicitors are expensive and divorce aint cheap either. And by the way, no barristers fees etc have been factored in yet.

    Thanks in advance.

The solicitor must give you a breakdown of the costs. Just request it, problem solved.
