Oil Fumes from Engine

    Hi All,

I drive a 2008 Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel with 180,000 miles on the clock which I regularly drive on motorways at 120km per hour.

Recently, I have had oil based fumes coming out of my engine. I have replaced the copper washers below the injectors, which has improved things but has not eliminated the fumes.

I would say that it is time to scrap the car, but if anyone has any recommended guidelines, I am all ears.

(The fumes look like smoke and I get a strong smell from the engine when I drive the car)

    Thanks In Advance

That's fair mileage for that small diesel engine. Don't know what you mean by oil based fumes?

What you're smelling is most likely exhaust or diesel fumes, or a mix of both.

If there's light smoke coming up from the injector area and it's kind of chuffing then the copper washers were not installed correctly, or the injector seats were not cleaned properly or at all.

Check If there's any pools of liquid at the injectors, this would lead to leak off pipe seals needing replacing.

It is also possible that the injector oil seals are failing, which would let engine oil into the injector port and burn off leading to smoke?

I wouldn't scrap the car over either of these issues, if the rest of it is going well.

Would be cautious about driving with fumes being inhaled though.
